If you haven't heard of the show 'The Bold Type', stop everything you are doing and start from the beginning. This exciting and realistic show follows three best friends through their daily lives and shows what it's like working for a big magazine and corporation in New York City today.
These girls are all very different, but their relationships are so raw and real that viewers can tell their characters really are best friends. While following them through all of the ups and downs of their daily lives is very entertaining, the conversations that they have on this show is what is really important.
One of the biggest topics addressed on this show is the LGBTQ+ community and their rights, or lack thereof. One of the main characters, Kat, is a lesbian, and she is a huge advocate for the entire community and never hesitates to talk to people about it, even if she knows they may not agree with her. There is a lesson we can all learn from that, and not just in relation to the LGBTQ+ community. If we are passionate about something, we need to speak up about it, no matter what the people around us may be thinking.
Along with LGBTQ+ rights, this show deals with real life issues such as relationships in the office, cheating, racial profiling and racism in the workplace, fertility in women, sex, gender equality and so many other issues that people deal with in real life every day. The girls on the show help each other through each obstacle that comes their way, showing the importance of true friendship as you grow older.
This show is the perfect coming of age show for young women in college who are about to be out in the real world and on their own. It perfectly shows us how to navigate the professional world and how to deal with all of the obstacles that we know are going to come our way - because we are women and we are young.
With that being said, everyone could learn a thing or two from watching this show.
Women, men, old, young; there is something for every audience in this show. Because of some scenes and words used, I do not recommend for extremely young audiences. People who are working their way through life, trying to figure out what they believe and what they want to do, they are the people who should be watching this show. As well as people who think they have everything figured out and could use a dose of reality in learning to accept everyone, no matter who they are.
'The Bold Type' is now on its fourth season on Freeform and airs every Thursday at 9/8c. Clear your calendars for every Thursday if you haven't already watched it, this is not a show you will want to miss any more of.
