To anyone who hasn't seen the show, "BoJack Horseman" sounds ridiculous. A show about an alcoholic horse? What? But in reality, it is one of the deepest, most emotional forms of entertainment I have ever witnessed. And it's coming to an end very soon.
Indeed, the final season of "BoJack Horseman" is coming to Netflix in two parts, releasing on October 25, 2019 and January 31, 2020 respectively. It's especially sad to know that the show will be ending, because it's become so integral to my life. Over the past few years, I've seen BoJack and his friends go through experiences that I've related to on a deeply personal level. BoJack's depressive mannerisms mirror my own, although probably not on the same scale. Diane's struggle with identity also hits me hard, as I still don't know who I want to be seen as or what I want to be. It's these types of things that make the show so incredible. The authenticity of the writing shows that creator Raphael Bob-Waksberg is completely in control of his craft. And with the conclusion, it seems like BoJack may finally be able to change and gain redemption for the horrible acts he's committed. It's hard to label him a good person. He's stabbed his friends in the back. He inadvertently played a part in a drug-fueled death. And most recently, he assaulted a woman while on drugs. But last season ended with BoJack going to rehab and accepting that he has a problem.
And therein lies the ultimate theme of "BoJack Horseman." While we'll see how this last season ends, the show conveys the idea that, if you actively work towards it and try to earn it, redemption can be achieved (barring extreme cases.) Hopefully our horse friend will finally find his way in the conclusion of the show.
"BoJack Horseman" will conclude on Netflix, with Part 1 coming October 25, 2019.
