Everyone has had something mean said about them. That’s life—you can’t escape it. When it comes to body shaming, almost every young woman has dealt with that kind of criticism. Not only women who are considered to be heavier...skinny women too. I don’t think it’s fair or kind to body shame ANYONE. Everyone should feel comfortable in their own skin. But putting down other women down for being “unrealistic” is counterproductive. Body shaming shouldn’t happen period, but we have to remember that anyone can be body shamed, and instead of attacking girls that are skinny or saying “bigger is better” we should encourage people to be healthy whether the results are a size 2 or a curvy plus size.
Victoria's Secret models for example, I’ve noticed on social media are always criticised for being “too skinny” or “unrealistic” are they really “unrealistic” though? They are real people too. Yes of course they have a team of people to do their hair and makeup, workout routines, and their photos are photoshopped, but they work hard to achieve their appearance. Adriana Lima for example, has been a Victoria's Secret model since 2000. In an interview with Hello Magazine she talked diet and exercise.
“I eat a balanced diet. The secret is to watch your portions but I also work out a lot. Working out a lot isn't necessary but I am very active and my body can endure intense workouts,” said Lima.
It’s unfair to say that these women are unrealistic.
You can be healthy and not necessarily slim, and you can have the worst diet and never exercise but be super thin. No one is ever going to have YOUR body. Which is why we should never body shame anyone rather simply encourage people to be live a healthy lifestyle.
Eating a proper, nutritious diet offers numerous health benefits that keep you mentally and physically well. Regular exercise helps you become a happier person. Many studies have shown that exercise, compared to a sedentary lifestyle, boosts your quality of life and your health.
Instagram fitness models and Victoria Secret models are good examples to follow as far as how they live a healthy life. We all know photoshop exists and a woman without any stretch marks and zero cellulite or imperfections is not very realistic. However, getting amazing results from hard work and dedication is. If you love yourself, love yourself by living a healthy lifestyle. Don’t be a victim of body shaming because your self-worth isn’t defined by someone else, rather feel empowered enough to aim for a better you.
