A Guide To A Healthy Lifestyle: Body Acceptance

Going through my usual YouTube subscriptions, I noticed a common theme among the people I watch. They have all become open about their journey of body acceptance. It's particularly difficult for them, because once they choose to put part of their lives for everyone to know; they also give power to the world to critique what they do. But it's not just them, everyone struggles with some form of body image. The only problem is that we as a society proclaim that everyone is unique, but we also tear each other down.

We are flooded by messages on social media of how we are supposed to look and how we are supposed to be. We aren't robots, we are human beings with more depth. There is nothing wrong with the way you look. Your body should be treated as a temple, because you only get one. If you are looking for things to pick on about yourself, you will always find something. Which is why you have to give yourself all the love you deserve. Start doing small things for yourself and your body will thank you.

It starts with health, and what you feed your body. If the things that you are eating make you feel gross afterwards, start changing your diet. We are lucky to exist in a time where you can look up anything on the internet. Find ways to cook your own favorite food instead of always going out to eat. I understand we don't have time sometimes, but we have at least 15 minutes. Some of the best dishes can be cooked around that time. And I am not saying that you should become vegan or just eat strictly vegetables, no. Part of what will give your more positivity is being able to give yourself the freedom to venture out with food. Take the thought of food making you gain weight out of your mind. Food is meant to be enjoyed and not feeling guilty. Don't associate food with something that will kill you, your body needs this to survive. It's all a matter of perspective.

Also, there are so many ways to work out. Give yourself a few minutes to go run, jump rope, lift weight, whatever floats your boat. Exercise boosts endorphins in your body to give you a clear mind. I can guarantee it will make you happier.

Celebrate yourself. You are living and working so hard. Body acceptance begins with you and I know it is a difficult journey and it takes time; just keep telling yourself that you look good. If the world tears you down, build yourself up.

You are you and that is all that matters. There will never be another you with the same body and the same mind. You are made of earth, love, and positivity. So reach within yourself and find things that make your happy and always follow them.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
