When Stranger Things was first released on Netflix, I watched it out of pure curiosity and an undying love for anything related to the eighties. Little to my knowledge, my whole world would be flipped upside down (pun definitely intended). I was hooked and shook. For me, the show presents a refreshing contrast from some other shows I spend my time watching. It's a good balance between comedic and suspenseful, dark and innocent.
If there's one thing that truly makes the shows it's the characters and there's one person in particular who deserves some recognition...
Steve Harrington.
Looking back on the first season, Steve was in a need of some serious change. He was a walking stereotype: rich, popular, and wanted by many. If you've seen Stranger Things, you already know that his attitude was a testament to this. He was, without a doubt, the boy you didn't see yourself rooting for.
However, the second season presented audiences with a new and improved Steve. It's become pretty apparent that he's grown up and worked to change his ways. It's no longer all about Steve Harrington. Even with the new kid (Billy) in town, Steve's place on the throne at Hawkins High School has been replaced. This development is most obvious through his relationship with the kids, especially Dustin. Throughout season two, Steve and Dustin were something like partners in crime. Steve not only kept Dustin safe, but gave him some needed confidence (and interesting hair tips).
I didn't realize just how badly I needed some good ol' fashioned growth from him until it actually happened. I'm curious to see where Steve goes in the following season. Maybe he'll fall in love with a new girl. Or actually make an effort to make going to college a reality. Whatever the case may be, I hope things go up for Steve Harrington.
