In just this week, there have been numerous murders against black men and police officers sworn to protect us. We all live our own lives. We all have made mistakes, some larger than others. Death should always be the last resort. Americans created a system which serves justice and punishes within the realms of due process. Yet for some reason, people have decided that they know more than our system. They have decided to be the judge, jury, and executioner of the recent victims.
I will not say that the system we put into place is perfect. I won’t say that the people in this system are perfect; they are in fact, humans. This isn’t "The Purge." Americans have a number of freedoms, but killing each other is not one of them. Murder is against the nature of humanity, but I feel every time I turn on the news another person has perished.
I have heard that these recent killings occurred because of racial differences, but I do not believe it. This isn’t a race problem, this is a human problem. Since the beginning of time, there have been murders. While I would like to believe this is a simple problem, it isn’t.
There will never be a peace on Earth as long as humans live here. However, humans would like to believe that there are differences that pit each other against one another. Before I would ever judge a person, I would look at how they respect themselves. You can be a well-educated, dapper, young black man and have people show you as much respect as you deserve. We have a black president, for goodness sake. On the other hand, you can be a trashy, illiterate white man who is treated like litter. Hate does not take form in melanin. Neither does being respectful. We all bleed red. When the bullet hits the skin, it does not matter if you wear your pants below your knees or a suit and tie, it does the same damage. The body bleeds excessively, your tissue swells, your body tries to save itself from death.
After the attack at Pulse Nightclub, hundreds of people lined up and gave their blood, which their body made for themselves to those who were hurt. We cried together and told each other we loved one another. Yet the carnage hasn’t stopped, and the blood continues to spill. The blood that makes us all human is splattered upon the whole country. It is split by other humans. Who must die for each and every person to decide to stop spilling blood? Again this isn’t a race thing; it is a human thing.
Stop saying we love each other and we are a family, then kill a brother in humanity. This isn’t love. Stop taking sides against another person. African Americans are not all thugs. Mexicans are not all illegal. Asians are not all smart. Native Americans are not all drunks. Caucasians are not all racists or high class. Muslims are not terrorists. America is a melting pot of people, cultures, and races. America will never be the same after all this carnage. My hope is that we end up a better place than when we started this mess.
