I don't know what this world has come to. I never used to get up in the morning and read the news to see if there had been another attack somewhere in this world while I was sleeping. Yet, for about the past two months it seems as though I wake up almost every morning to some form of "Breaking News" notification that is telling me that yet another ignorant human being has taken the life of another. And what for? Because their religious views don't match up with yours or because your skin tones are on the opposite sides of the spectrum? I just don't get it.
The concepts of hate, racism and sexism are nothing new. They have been around since the beginning of time, sadly, but for some reason, they are all now a huge majority of our everyday life. We can't go a day without them entering some part of our life. They lurk where ever we go. They're on our social media, in our brain, in our homes. They consume our attention for copious amounts of time. We can't escape from these things, and they are not going anywhere, unfortunately.
But this is what I can't wrap my head around -— we all bleed red and our tears are all composed of the same matter. Inside, there is nothing separating us. We are all human. We are all people. We all deserve the same opportunities. We all deserve to be loved and love those who we want to love. I don't care what you are labeled as, because first and foremost, you are human.
It doesn't matter what your sexual orientation is, what the color of your skin is, where you come from, what you identify as, what your political views are, who you love, your views on religion or other major topics in the world. We are all people. So why does someone deserve to die because they don't worship the same God as you? Why does someone deserve to be punished because their choice on who they love, isn't the same as yours? Why should loved ones suffer because their loved one was taken from them because of their skin tone? That doesn't make sense. And it never will.
This world has become such a messed up place. It has become a place that I am not sure if I want my future children to ever see. This world used to be a place that you could still see the good in. There were more human acts of kindness and fewer acts of terrorism. But today it is like you can't make it through the day without having to face some sort of tragedy. Today, the acts of good are rare to come by it seems. What happened to the days where violence and terrorism were rare? It's like we are numb to it now. It's becoming something we are used to. What is wrong with this world?
To those who live in fear or are constantly judged because of the country they call home or the religion that they stand behind — I am sorry that you have been categorized. I am sorry that someone who just so happened to be from your home country, or claims to be from your religion, has acted out in acts of terrorism and placed a stereotype on you that does not actually apply to you. You don't deserve to be placed inside a box that labels you as one of them, simply because of their action.
To those who are victims of racism — I am sorry. Just because people of your race have labeled you with a stereotype also, does not mean that you should fall victim to it.
To those who are victims of hate because of who they chose to love — I am sorry. You have been given the right to love who you please, where ever you please and it is sad that those who don't agree with you, are trying to take it away from you.
To the police officers who actually do their job and stand behind the oath that they took — thank you. Thank you for staying true to your duties and not abusing your power. Thank you for protecting us and not filling the stereotype that is quickly sweeping the nation.
I can't imagine what it is like to fall into one of those categories. To be judged and categorized by something that I should be prideful about. I can't wait to wake up one day, where the world is a better place and people finally realize that we all bleed red.
