Written and Directed by Ben Younger, Bleed For This tells the true story of "The Pazmanian Devil" Vinny Pazienza.
Synopsis
In Bleed For This, we follow Vinny Pazienza (Miles Teller) through one of the most influential comebacks in sports history. The movie starts off with the Pazmanian Devil living his life as best as he could. Soon enough, Vinny gets in a fatal car accident that leaves him paralyzed. After being told that he might never walk again, all hope seemed lost. Angry and motivated, Vinny started training while injured and quickly made his comeback to the boxing game.
Polishes
The true story is a very motivating one that urges everyone to never give up. The message is apparent in the film, but the overall movie is a snooze-fest. I really wanted to enjoy this movie, but I couldn't bring myself to it. The amount of times I yawned during the latter half of the movie was insurmountable. The movie started off quick and quirky, but shortly became uninteresting and slow. During the movie's climax, it seemed as if it was picking, but it quickly slowed down again.
Miles Teller is one of Hollywood's up and coming actors. I really like this guy, and I believe he will have much success as he gets older. However, he greatly disappoints as Vinny Pazienza. At times, Teller would overact and ruin a scene that had potential to be good. The accent he put on was atrocious and felt very artificial. It truly pains me to say that Miles Teller took a very big step in the wrong direction in this film.
Aaron Eckhart portrays Kevin Rooney, Vinny's trainer. I also like Eckhart and his ability on screen, but he failed miserably in this movie. Like Teller, he was too comical in his performance and his accent was horrible.
Verdict
Boring - 46%
Bleed For This had an amazing message behind it, but that message was delivered unpleasantly, therefore ruining the movie. Miles Teller and Aaron Eckhart underperform and fail to deliver when it mattered most.
