Blake Griffin needs to prove his worth in Hollywood. He is definitely Hollywood and has the endorsement deals to prove it. Hell, we now want Kia cars because of Griffin.
Who knew DC comic fans would be pleased to see Ben Affleck star as the new Batman. After a less successful attempt to bring a comic book character to life, Director, Zack Snyder still trusted Affleck past pedigree to take the Batman franchise to a new level. This new character might clearly define Affleck’s place in Hollywood lore. Undoubtedly, superhero movie franchises are huge right now and Batman’s incarnation is a bigger deal. The DC multiverse is far more complex than the NBA, but they do have heroes and villains.
Batmans and Jokers; if DC could trust Affleck, can the Los Angeles Clipper?
There has been no doubt that Griffin might slowly be fluctuating between these star roles in this Hollywood production. Last season, his own critical over-dramatic anecdotes helped derail the highlight reel cast that has surrounded him. Like Heath Ledger’s Joker, a sociopath hell bent on being an engine of chaos, Griffin shockingly punched a team trainer, and then continued his dramatic season.
It could be said that Griffin last season seemed more concerned with his ego rather than basketball, missing an extra six weeks and serving a four-game suspension, but still appeared on television in a suit and not in a Clippers uniform. Hopefully Griffin was not secretly enjoying this like the psychotic Joker.
Griffin’s troubling season starts all the way at the beginning of his NBA career starting with injuries, and though he overcame that and still won Rookie of the Year, Griffin has yet to prove that he is a player capable of getting over the top. Griffin’s talent fits perfectly with this team in theory. The combination of Chris Paul, DeAndre Jordan, J.J. Reddick and Doc Rivers have forged a scary intimidation factor in the Western Conference, along with Griffin. Ever since Lob City established its population, they have rained downed dunk after dunk after—dunk. Yet, injuries came at some inopportune moments that have forced the team to sit the $95 million man next to coach. Maybe the Clippers are more Suicide Squad and not Justice League.
His injuries may have hindered the Clippers at times, but Blake has positive factors that make the “Dark Knight,” or in this case the “Light Knight,” a major key in making this team an award-winning motion production. Griffin served as hero like figure and provided a powerful punch in the 2014 and 2015 Playoffs. Skillfully dominating the floor enough to give hope to many fans.
Griffin’s development of other key skills has opened the floor for his supporting cast. Griffin has earned many accolades in his time, and displayed growth to be formidable player in many different eras. His skill set has earned the five time All-Star All-NBA honors four times.
However, a newly found mid-range jump shot and offense awareness bodes well for the Clippers success; will it be able to take the Clips to the big stage? This new era requires position-less players to make highlight plays at a break-neck speed. Griffin tends to hold the ball and rely on others to make plays for him. He has shown flashes of improvement with big to big ball movement with Jordan, but still has an empty trophy case, and a steadily increasingly full medicine cabinet.
Now any top director wants his stars in place on film, and Rivers is the same way. The elder Rivers was able to direct a respectable effort, led by Paul’s understudy and Rivers’ son Austin Rivers. Their early dismissal from the NBA’s championship circuit was put in greater risk with the injury to Paul and Griffin. What the Clips were able to accomplish was a valiant effort, but all involved would have appreciated the dynamic duo’s involvement in the playoffs.
The Clips need to also look at how well they did without Griffin during the regular season, as they had a better record without the popular power forward than with him.If the Clippers want to make an Oscar award winning performance, Griffin and the team need to figure out which side of the war they are on, good or evil.
