This has been a week of big announcements in the film industry for high profile upcoming movies, both comic book related. This week it was announced that a Booster Gold movie is in the works for Warner Brothers studio. Booster Gold is a lesser known hero who travels from the future to the past when his life does not turn out the way he had hoped to gain fortune and fame. There is no director attached to this movie as of yet but there is a writer, Zack Stentz who has written the screenplays for "Agent Cody Banks," "Thor," and "X-Men: First Class" and has dabbled in the DC Universe with the "The Flash" TV show. I am intrigued by this movie for the DC Cinematic Universe because it will bring a much needed lighter and more fun tone to a cinematic universe that, as of recently, has been sorely lacking any fun. I do have reservation about a Booster Gold movie because of the time travel and because of how Booster Gold will fit into the currently established DC Cinematic Universe, but at this stage in the movie there is no reason for extreme excitement or extreme pessimism unless you are huge a fan or hater of the Booster Gold character.
Marvel's "Black Panther" had several huge casting announcements and rumors this week, coming off Chadwick Boseman's well received performance as Black Panther or T'Challa in "Captain American: Civil War." Lupita Nyong’o was reported to be in talks for the female lead and possible love interest for Black Panther. While Michael B. Jordan was announced as a another addition to the cast it has been rumored he could play a villain. I'd be remiss if I also didn't mention Black Panther's amazing director Ryan Coogler. I am beyond excited for this movie. I cannot remember the last time I was so excited for a movie so far away and it wasn't just me. #BlackPantherSoLIt was trending on twitter over the weekend due to all the positive fanfare from the announcements. This was a perfect example how you generate fanfare for a movie that is shaping up to be spectacular if everyone preforms to their ability.
In other fantastic news for the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the studio has now grossed over 10 billion dollars factoring the current gross for "Civil War," which sits at $940.89 million dollars.
In the remakes nobody wanted or asked for news, the all female reboot of "Ocean's 11" is rumored to be adding Jennifer Lawrence to the cast, which so far has Sandra Bullock as the lead and Director Gary Ross who is known for "The Hunger Games." There is no discernible reason for this movie to exist; that last Ocean's movie came out only nine years ago. A sequel should be made if a movie or property was not quite as good as it could've been but had potential and came out long enough ago for there to be fanfare for a remake. This remake is known of those characteristics and feels to me like an attempt to pander to women by giving them an already established property instead of creating something new and fresh for Bullock and possible Lawrence to star in.
