I LOVE Marvel Movies. The MCU is one franchise I am wholly and totally invested in. But, it does have one glaring fault I can no longer ignore: Black Widow does not have her own movie. In fact, there are no Marvel movies about a woman superhero and personally, I think Black widow is the best place to start.
Black Widow, also known as Natasha Romanoff (or Nat by her fellow Avengers) is the most badass Avenger. She has no superpowers. None. And yet, she still keeps up with, and on occasions kicks the asses of, her teammates. She can take any one of her male colleagues and hold her own, as we saw in the constant ass-kicking she gave Bucky in “Civil War.” AND she does it all in heels and a leather suit. I can barely walk in that kind of outfit.
Where does this total badassness come from? Well, her totally bad ass backstory of course, which is way cooler than any of the other Avengers’ in my opinion (except maybe Scarlet Fox, but only because they’re pretty similar). Basically, Black Widow was saved from a burning building by a Soviet soldier. She was then trained in espionage by the Soviets. Then she was inducted into the Black Widow Program, which trained elite female sleeper agents. And, as a cover, she studied ballet. Yeah, she learned how to kick ass and pointe (I’m not sure which is harder, to be honest). Later, of course, she broke ties with Russia and left that life to fight the Avengers.
All that espionage training also gave her crazy hacker skills by the way. Yeah, she can kick your ass via the internet too. And that’s not the only way she is smart. She is diplomatic, too. Her go-to move really is talking it out, shown in “Civil War”, always starting with a conversation to convince her friends not to hurt each other.
On top of all that, she is an integral part to the Avengers and quite possibly the glue that holds them together. She has formed unique relationships with each hero and is really the only reason Captain America and Iron Man put up with each other for as long as they did. Not to mention her adorable (and totally platonic) relationship with Hawkeye is probably the only reason that man is still alive. She took Scarlet Fox under her wing, teaching her important skills for super hero work. She was also the only one who could control The Hulk and bring him back to Bruce Banner. Let’s face it, this woman is the glue that holds the Avengers together. Without her, they’d all be dead (probably from Cap and Tony fighting until Bruce went green and smashed them).
At this point, not having a Black Widow movie is just sexist. She has this amazing and tragic origin story that propels her into fighting for the good in this world, rather than letting it consume her. She can fight with and against people with super powers and vibranium suits and win. She is the best and most badass Avenger and deserves her own movie.
