There are countless ways that we need to support the Black Lives Matter movement — some requiring more effort than others. But one thing we are going to do anyways is spend money, so why not spend that money more purposefully? I'm sure you've come across lists of Black-Owned restaurants in your city. The practice of intentionally supporting businesses that are owned by minorities is essential in attempting to reduce the racial gap in America's economy. Research shows that Black-Owned enterprises are much less likely to succeed in America compared to those owned by whites. Similarly, there are far fewer of them; only 9.5% of all U.S. businesses are owned by African-Americans. When it comes to casual shopping, many Black-Owned businesses could just be local stores in your neighborhood as opposed to retail chains. However, you can find certain products sold at retail giants such as Target that come from Black-Owned businesses — you just need to be able to identify them. The following list provides online stores and companies that are convenient, affordable, and Black-Owned.
