People Need To Understand How Important Every Culture And Race Is To The Contribution Of America

Many were promised America would be, "Great Again" and many couldn't remember a time when America was, "great". Guanahani was the first land in the New World discovered by Christopher Columbus, located in the Bahamas. Christopher Columbus, the man we give a holiday to write in a journal about the natives of Guanahani, he stated, "... they are very meek and without knowledge of evil nor do they kill others or steal … and they are without weapons and so timid that one of our people can put a hundred of them to flight". America's foundation wasn't built on trust or Christianity, it was built on the ingenious of the natives. They were taken advantage of and misled. This manipulation would continue throughout history with Trails of Tears, Slavery and even concentration camps during World War 2.

It's as if American's take ten steps forward to take twenty steps back. History is known to repeat itself, so how can we do better? It seems as if issues only bother people when it starts to effects them. Police brutality happens and there are finally cameras there to capture the moment so many people have reported with no proof and still, nothing happens. African Americans chant, "Black Lives Matter" with the message only being missed due to a counter-intuitive message, "Cops Lives Matter".

When African American's chant this, they didn't think they needed to add the "too" at the end for people to understand our lives have been seen as worth less than and they're tired of it. You turn on the news and you see our President tweeting to his "Haters" when he should be addressing bigger issues like, why Flint, Michigan still doesn't have drinkable water, public school teachers still don't get the pay they deserve, and why do we treat those looking for refugee-like animals.

Imagine this, Mexico, Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, and California were all known as Spanish colonies. Then in 1847 James K. Polk our president at the time, unconstitutionally provoked a war with Mexico for Texas, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, and California to become apart of the United States. He broke a treaty and "theft" these "states". Now, the people who were originally the natives to this land are getting a wall built to make sure they do not "invade" America's land, the same land American's stole. Knowledge is power and some people lack the knowledge of our history to understand why certain laws are made to protect those who aren't people of color.

People of color are owed so much more from America, not only did they build this country, they're the true founders of it and until people fully understand how important every culture and race is to the contribution of America, history will ALWAYS repeat itself. There isn't one race, one man, one woman more important than ALL of us. We are all equally important to the growth that the United States is capable of making, we just need the knowledge and patience. Then, maybe America can actually be "great" for once.

It is that time of year again. Christmastime. It is one of my favorite seasons for a myriad of reasons. Here are just a few reasons why I love Christmas. This list is in no order of importance.

1. The Christmas decorations

I am that person who will decorate directly after Thanksgiving is over. This year, my roommates and I put the tree up in our apartment before we even left for Thanksgiving break. It is a great stress reliever for me to just sit in my living room and work on the huge amount of work I have before the semester is over.

Writing a paper is never fun and is rarely rewarding. The writer's block, the page requirement, be specific, but don’t summarize, make sure you fixed any grammatical errors, did you even use spellcheck? and analyze, analyze, analyze.

Papers can be a major pain. They take up so much time and effort that by the end of the process you hate yourself and you hate the professor for making life so difficult. Questions of your existence start roaming in your mind. Am I even cut out for college if I can’t write a single paper? Am I even capable of taking care of myself if I lack the energy to open my laptop and start typing?
