If You Think Black Lives Matter Protests Aren't About Black Lives, You're Racist And Out Of Touch

Listen, Tucker Carlson, Black Lives Matter is about just that: black lives. It's not a political move from the left to come and attack everybody. It's not about who you agree with politically: it's about making sure black lives, well, matter.

On Monday evening, Fox News commentator, Tucker Carlson, went on a rant about Black Lives Matter.

In fact, he classified the entire movement as a political party.

Tucker: Black Lives Matter is now a political partyFox News//YouTube

That's right... a political party.

Black Lives Matter is NOT a partisan political issue, it's a human issue.

As a white male, Carlson has zero idea what it's like to be dehumanized based on your skin color, to lose out on opportunities because of your skin color, to be murdered because of your skin color.

Tucker, you're straight-up denying your privilege.

Stop turning a battle of human rights into a battle of partisan politics. Not everything needs to be a battle of political parties in this country. Not everything needs to be a big battle pitting two sides against each other. So, Carlson, you can stop doing that at any point in time now.

Division is not needed in a time when we are already so divided. Let's all step up and view this as the human rights issue that it is, and keep politics out of it. If we can't do that, we're failing to acknowledge people's humanity, and honestly, we're failing to help educate others about injustice.

We're promoting racism by putting more emphasis on political parties than people.

And honestly, we just don't need that! There's enough hate in this world without dividing once again over politics and turning everything, and I mean everything, into a political statement.

It doesn't have to be this way. It just needs to be about black lives becoming important, as important as white lives: plan and simple.

Oh, and if you're saying this entire thing isn't about black lives, is your entire circle white?

I have no issue when people don't see eye to eye politically, but that's the issue here — turning a human rights issue into partisan politics is wrong, and as a result, Carlson is missing the entire point of this movement.

People are protesting because they are tired. They're tired of being looked at as less than human.

They're tired of living in fear.

Challenge yourself to listen, truly listen, to someone who has experienced this type of hate and deep-rooted racism. Spoiler alert: it's not sunshine and rainbows.

It's a lot of tears, a lot of sleepless nights, a lot of watching every move you make and a lot of straight-up inequality.

It's not enough to be passive. It's not enough to say, "It doesn't impact me."

Because even though it doesn't impact you, it impacts your black neighbor, your black friend, your black family member.

Wake up and realize that it's not about you or me, as white people. You may not see the point to the protest or you may not see why black people are so angry and fed up in this country.

But, I'm begging you, take the time, hear their story and realize that Carlson, and so many others, are wrong.

This isn't party politics, it's personal.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
