When #BlackLivesMatter started trending, many people took it seriously. Others, not so much. Black Lives Matter isn't a competition for whose life matters more. This is an actual issue that needs resolving. Suddenly Pokemon Go came out and everyone forgot about this movement. This is something that shouldn't be taken as a joke. Why do people see it as a competition? Is it because they think their race is more important than the real issue that is happening? Seeing this as a competition will get nothing solved.
I interviewed a friend, Inez Hood, who is a woman of color at the age of 21 years old and asked what her thoughts were on the subject. "This issue is definitely more important than Pokemon Go. No one is being killed by police while hunting for fictional characters. I play the game but I know that it's not important or equally important. Black women should be scared of this issue and if they aren't, I hope they're looking out for themselves because cops are targeting everyone of color, not just teenage and middle-aged men. They don't care what gender we are. Living in El Paso, I was blessed enough to not really experience the racism that's in other parts of the world. I did feel safe growing up here as a black girl, because at that time, I didn't know the color of my skin bothered people and my family kept me out of harms way, and I just stayed out of any trouble that would lead me to be unsafe as a black woman. Everybody should know that this is an issue. Not that there's an issue with the color of my skin but it is in some places. Yes, there's other tragic things going on in the world but African Americans being killed left and right for no reason is a tragic thing and everyone needs to know about it because most of us are not safe in our own home country. I'd like to see more justice for the people that didn't survive their experience. More consequences for the police officers. I just think they should resort to other ways of dealing with certain things instead of just shooting everyone up. There's so much I'd like to see in course of action and only prayers and having faith can try to change the way America thinks."
This movement is something that needs resolving, I may not be Black, but I am a human who thinks that what is happening is very wrong. What people need to see is the thoughts of people of color and know what they are thinking of the issue. This is something that is more important that Pokemon Go. After reading what someone who is part of the movement had to say, do you still think it's a joke?
