Ahhhh. Black Friday. The infamous day where millions wait in line, fight like animals, and maybe spend too much money on things they might not need only a day after we come together to be thankful for what we already possess. The irony is too good. But still, year after year, hundreds of millions of eager shoppers take on the huge crowds and shop till they drop in this 84-year-old tradition. Personally, I’m not one for huge crowds. They give me anxiety, make me feel claustrophobic, and not many of these shoppers you run into on this day are always in the chipper “holiday” mood when they’re checking items off their list. However, kudos to everyone that braves the flood of bodies on this stressful day and does successfully get that flat screen for 70% off. Really, go you! But, if you’re like me, and not really feeling the Black Friday shopping craze, but still want to do something with friends or family, here’s a list of fun activities you can do to still get in the holiday spirit without breaking the bank.

1. Go ice skating

This is a fun family activity for everyone. Just be sure to bundle up!

2. Christmas movie marathon

Binge watching Christmas movies cuddled under blankets while sipping on hot chocolate. What could be better?

3. Get started on your holiday decorations

To those who say it's not okay to put up your Christmas lights before December, LIGHTEN UP! (I am the queen of puns)

4. If it’s snowing, build a snowman or snow fort, have a snowball fight, make snow angels, literally snow is so fun no matter your age, just go play in the snow

Wow after saying “snow” so many times it sounds really weird. Snow… snowball, snowman. Weird. Anyways, hope you enjoyed that corgi. I know I did!

5. Go sledding

Again, if there’s snow outside, you better get out there and take advantage of it!

6. Knit something

Your grandma will be ecstatic to receive that handmade scarf you put hours into making for her, no matter how untalented at knitting you may be!

7. Do some puzzles

Maybe even challenge yourself with one of those 1,000 piece puzzles. They are sooooooooo satisfying.

8. Bake holiday treats

Sugar cookies, fudge, candy cane bark, caramel corn, cake pops, puppy chow, rice krispie treats, and even those easy chocolate dipped pretzel rods. My mouth is watering.

9. Donate blood

This isn’t your ordinary holiday tradition, but it should be! Saving lives is awesome. Get a group together and search online for a blood drive near you and you can even schedule appointments. Tis the season for giving!

10. Build a gingerbread house

So cute and so yummy!

11. Go Christmas caroling

Fa la la la la, la la la la!

12. Volunteer at your community food pantry, soup kitchen, or church

Because being a good person feels good!

13. And lastly, HUG someone you love

Spreading love isn’t just for the holidays, but it feels good to be appreciated. And don’t forget to hug yourself, too. You deserve it.

Sorority
Rebekah Lee

I remember my freshman year oh so well. I remember feeling terrified the night before orientation. The one thing that I dreaded the most was not the new people, the new environment, or even the academic pressure. I was dreading having to talk to sorority girls about Recruitment. I remember cutting off and avoiding any Rho Gamma/Panhellenic Officer that came my way during First Week. I looked at them like they had asked me to cut my arm off whenever they asked me if I wanted to rush. To be honest, I did not even know what rush was, but I knew that I did NOT want to be a part of it. To me, it was dumb. It was a waste of money. It was a waste of my time.

And guess what? I did not rush my freshman year. I spent the first half of my freshman year isolating myself from everyone on campus. I spent all of my time in the library, and then (since I was a commuter) went back home once my work was finished.

Tiana would no doubt be disappointed in the food our cafeteria has to offer.

And hopefully she would cook for everyone in her dorm.

She definitley would not take any 8:00 am classes because she would be up late baking and cleaning up the communal kitchen that are available in every dorm.
