It's that time of year again. The turkey is in tupperware containers in the fridge. The Christmas decorations are slowly showing up all over our neighborhoods. The family got reunited again with stories and pictures to capture the moments you had on this Thanksgiving day. It was a great day filled with family and love, reminding us to be thankful for all the we have and to remember those that are living without. It is a humble and caring holiday. Until the clock strikes twelve and everything vanishes.
Black Friday.
Interesting "holiday" isn't it?
Black Friday, A day where we celebrate sales and discounts in retail stores. Some venture out on Thanksgiving night to line up to beat the morning traffic. Some stay up until 4 AM waiting for stores to unlock their doors. People rush. People yell. People fight.
For what? For shoes? For appliances? For television sets that need repair the next day?
Now, I love shopping just as much as the next person. But, it breaks my heart to see people fight and bicker over materialistic possessions after just giving thanks for all that they have.
I assume that wasn't enough? You need more? What about the soldier overseas? I bet he wished he was shopping for shoes instead of away from his family. What about the homeless family that traveled to a soup kitchen to get their plate of food on thanksgiving? I bet they wished they could afford the sale for clothes or electronics? But we still manage to kill people over sales. People die on Black Friday because people trample over others to get into the stores or start fights that lead to someone getting hurt. It is horrendous at how hypocritical Black Friday is. I hope that one day people will end the foolishness. Because for that low-priced handbags and those hot new sneakers, you managed to beat the crowds and the people, barreling through traffic and fights, over-hearing that someone's child, friend, sibling got killed a day after they were thankful for being alive and well. Now look at those items you purchased and ask yourself?
Was it worth it?
