Black coffee:

I thank you for working miracles for me, even though I know you can't respond with "You're welcome."

You really have gotten me through a lot. I wake up in the morning and I feel better knowing that you will be there for me; knowing that you will always be there for me. You give me the energy to take on my day. You give me the gifts of happiness and joy. You even help me to remember what I have to do for the day. Thank you. You are the best.

Your color is so dark and reflective. You remind me that everyone is different. Everyone has a different color; not one looking identical to the other. We all come from different places. You, I know, come from Costa Rica. Everyone is different. The others come from all over the world.

I know not all are made to be strong, but you are strong and bold. Almighty you are. The others like the way they are: weak and bitter. Sometimes I find you slightly bitter, but most of the time you are perfect to me. Even if you are bitter, you are loyal.

Your aromatic fragrance is something else I appreciate. You always change it up. Some days your scent is French Vanilla, and others it is Southern Pecan. Every day, it is invigorating. Your smell is charming to most, especially to me. Bridging the gap of time from childhood memories to present day indulgence, you draw everyone to where you are located. Most of the time you are in the kitchen.

You have changed a lot. You have been around for so long that people became creative. They came up with different ways to make you who you are. You are always dressed in different colors, covering your body and giving you character. I would never dare to judge you based on what you are dressed in.

Your warmth is what I like the most on a cold day. I love having you right next to me to keep me warm. Even on a hot day, you are there to cool me down and take some of the heat away. I love having you there next to me no matter the weather.

I appreciate you. You have always been there, leading me to the right choices. You bring a kind of love into my life that makes me feel warm all over. You make my heart race. Strangely, you relax me at the same time.

You bring people together! Everyone loves taking pictures of you. You are so good to me, so good for me. You are stylish and personal. You are unique!

You are my coffee.

Thank you, black coffee.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
