In college, we do a lot of walking. And by a lot, I mean A LOT. Especially if you go to a big school.

So, if you’re doing a lot of walking, you probably need some good walking shoes. While sneakers may seem like the most obvious answer, you can never underestimate the power and functionality of Birkenstocks with socks. Birks and socks will be your go-to support system all year round, and they will RARELY ever let you down.

I know not everyone is a fan, but hear me out here on why Birks and socks is the best combination for walking around college.

1. It's unique.

Very few people actually have the guts to wear Birks and socks. Most shy away for fear that others will judge them, but if you can get over this fear, you will never turn back.

2. It's a great way to express your personality.

Visibly funky socks are one of the easiest ways to express your individual personality. There are millions of cool pairs of socks to choose from and there’s surely a pair that suit you extremely well, and if they’re visible, they will most certainly spark conversation with anyone around you. Cool socks AND free friends, am I right?

3. They're functional.

This combo is just so easy, how could you say no? Walking to class? Birks and socks. Going out? Birks and socks. Going to buy your third iced coffee of the day? Birks and socks. Game night? Birks and socks. The possibilities are truly endless.

4. They're comfortable.

It’s basically slippers. Socks and sandals might as well be slippers, and why wouldn’t you want to wear slippers around campus? Birks and socks are way more acceptable than slippers but they are equally comfortable so...

5. They go with anything.

Birks and socks work with absolutely any outfit, for sure. You can dress them up or down, and when in doubt, just throw on some Birks and socks.

6. They work in almost any season.

While probably not the most practical in rain or a few feet of snow, Birks and socks will, however, work when it’s hot or cold outside. All that you need to do is change the thickness of your socks. Sheer to fuzzy, this look can cover it all.

7. You join an exclusive club.

There are plenty of people who wear Birks with black or white Nike socks, but they are not part of the true club. They are fake fans. The real club is for people who wear really cool socks and Birks all over college all of the time. And we all have a secret connection that no one else can share.

8. Socks

If you are looking for a new hobby, get into funky socks. You won’t regret it.

9. Just because

If I haven’t convinced you yet, just do it because you can. Birks and socks will no doubt positively contribute to your college experience. Some days, looking forward to putting on your Birks and socks will be the best part of your day.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

It's not all morning coffees and singing along to the radio.

The Daily Struggles of Being a College Commuter

I've been in college for four years now. I spent half my time as a commuter and half as a resident so I've experienced both sides of the housing spectrum. One thing I've learned comparing the two is that my struggles as a commuter far outweigh anything I went through while living on campus. Commuters have to deal with the problems school brings along with a slew of other issues; I've filled up my gas tank in the worst kind of weather conditions and napped in random places in public more times than I'm proud to say of. This is a list of some of the most challenging aspects of being a commuter.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!
