On September 2, breakout star Travi$ Scott released his second studio album, "Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight."
This project was looked at to be one of the biggest releases hip-hop has seen this year. However, it seems Travi$ was unable to handle the pressure because this project seemed to not be what the world was hoping it would be.
This project saw some delays for reasons to be unknown, and some thought this could help the album because it would give him more time to really add some great touches to the project.
As far as the features go for this album, it was more than what any hip hop fan could have ever asked for. On the opening track, Travi$ went for the legend himself, Andre 3000. Now it seems that Andre has been around a lot more recently with his feature on Frank Ocean's album and now this. Travi$ would not stop there, he went on to grab big names like Kendrick Lamar, 21 Savage, and even his idol Kid Cudi. Now with this star-studded feature list, it seemed that these are what really carries the album in a way. The project would not be nearly as well received if the tracks were just Travi$ doing his thing. That is not to sound like the features he picked were bad, but it just makes it seem like people were only talking about who was on the album more than they were talking about Travi$ himself.
The production on this album seemed very rushed and not very well done. Travi$ came into the game looked at as a producer prodigy and to see one of his projects really lack in that category is just kind of odd. It felt like he was going for the trap sound but he really failed to put his own spin on it. With his last album, "Rodeo," it felt like he really found his own sound that everyone was trying to duplicate but on this thing, it felt like he was the one chasing everyone else.
Now even though Travi$ has never been known for his lyricism, he can still rap. Some of his bars are a little sub-par but when it comes down to it, he can spit. The bars on this album were just all around not very good. It felt that he was just doing what most other big names are doing now and just mumble on the track and hope the flow and the beat can carry to success and this was very disappointing to see with him.
Al in all. this project just felt very rushed and not very well done. Which could have been expected with the position he is in. After his last album, he was really buzzing and everyone was talking about him. He seemed very eager to put out a new album and it shows that this was not the one he should have dropped.
