Let’s face it, super heroes have become so intertwined in our pop culture that it has become its own genre. Millions of dollars have been made in movies. However, while Marvel has taken over the theatrical realm, DC Comics have set their roots in the world of television. Today’s Bingeworthy review is on such DC television series. More specifically The Flash.
The flash started out in 2013 as a spinoff of The Arrow, another DC comics series that premiered on the CW. Right now the first two seasons of the Flash are on Netflix, while a third season is airing on the CW. The show centers on Barry Allen. When he was a child, he watched his mother being killed by an unknown assailant and his father was blamed for it. Years later, Barry Allen is a forensic investigator for the Central City Police Department, until the explosion of a particle accelerator super charged a lightning bolt which struck Barry Allen, turning him into the fastest man alive: The Flash. But he was not the only one transformed by the particle accelerator. Meta humans are running amuck in Central City, and the only one who can stop them is The Flash, but Mr. Allen is not alone. He has a team of the smartest scientists by his side: Cisco Ramon, pop culture nerd and technology engineer, Caitlyn Snow, medical expert, and Harrison wells, super genius.
Okay, so that’s a pretty brief synopsis. I know that it seems like I explained a lot but it's only just scratching the surface. There’s a whole bunch of drams, and mystery to this sci-fi superhero show. Like who killed Barry’s mom? Will Caitlyn ever move passed her dead fiancé? And will Barry end up with his adoptive sister? Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that after Barry’s mom was murdered and father incarcerated, he was taken in by detective Joe West, and his daughter Iris become Barry’s best friend and love interest. It’s kind of weird I know, but if your adoptive sister was this hot you’d probably have a crush on her too.
Anyways the Flash is a decent show. It takes a few episodes for the acting to reach above sub-par standards, but the show has a lot of good stories. The show also has really good computer generated images, for a tv show. The show has a lot of heart. Like, you can cry a lot from this show. There are so many emotions. The fight scenes are pretty sick too. Although every now and then, you gotta ask, “why isn’t this bad guy taken down yet? All the Flash has to do is hit him with a couple super speed punches. Why are they dragging this out? Come on he's just standing there!” but that’s the worst of it really.
The Flash is a decent live action super hero show. The CW has really been landing on their feet with the live adaptations. The Flash has a lot of drama, heart, science, mystery and a whole bunch of other stuff to keep you interested. The only low points in the show are that the fights can seem a little ridiculous, and the acting can be a little sub par. All in all, it’s a decent show.
Score: 3.5/5
