We all have those days where all we want to do is stay in bed and avoid all responsibility. One of the things that often happens is the binge watching of TV shows, and movies. If you're bored of what you usually turn to, or just want to spice things up, that's where I come in with my quite possibly obscure taste in movies. So watch the trailers, read my comments, and maybe you'll find a new movie to fall in love with.
1. Annie Hall (1977)
While I will admit that Woody Allen isn't exactly a stellar person, I still highly recommend you watch Annie Hall. It's hilarious, and entertaining. Shoutout to my fave Katelyn Fournier for making me watch this when I was dying in your NYU dorm room freshman year.
2. The Thin Red Line(1998)
The Thin Red Line is honestly one of the most beautiful WWII films I've watched in terms of both cinematography, and it's story. Set in the South Pacific during the battle of Guadalcanal, it tells a beautiful story with an ending with leaves you both incredibly sad but satisfied.
3. Lost in Translation(2003)
Here we have another best friend Katelyn inspired favorite. It's funny, quirky, and has the beauties that are Bill Murray, and Scarlet Johansson. Also it's set in Japan, which is pretty rad. An overall A+ movie I 10/10 recommend you watch.
4. Meru(2015)
Meru is about climbers Conrad Anker, Jimmy Chin, and Renan Ozturk who set out to make the first ascent the Shark's Fin route of Mount Meru, known as one of the hardest routes in the world, in the Garwhal Himalayas. Fun fact, Jimmy Chin and Renan Ozturk also did a large part of the cinematography for the film. Overall it's a beautiful documentary in every aspect.
5. American Beauty(1999)
It's hard to describe what I love about American Beauty. Is it the younger looking Kevin Spacey? Is it the beauty that is young Wes Bentley? Is it the plot? Is it all those rose petals? I'm not entirely sure. I just happen to really enjoy watching this film.
6. Valley Uprising(2014)
Valley Uprising is an awesomely done documentary by Sender Films about the history of Yosemite National Park and it's role as the home of rock climbing in the United States. On top of the cool stories, all the beautiful rock climbing dirt bags, and rad views of the valley, it also has a great soundtrack. Overall another rad climbing documentary. If you find yourself into this go check out the other Reel Rock documentaries!
7. Into the Mind(2013)
While on the topic of outdoorsy films, Into the Mind, is an epic and beautiful film by Sherpas Cinema. It's probably one of my favorite films EVER because of how beautiful it is in terms of basically everything. I promise it's worth the watch, and after you're done I also recommend you go watch the Nepal Vision Quest/ BTS on the Sherpas Cinema youtube channel for some really rad background and behind the scenes footage.
8. The Darjeeling Limited(2007)
Because what's not to love about the the combination of Wes Anderson, India, and the hilariousness of the combination of Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, and Jason Schwartzman. It's such a funny, and colourful film, great for when you're feeling down.
9. Fargo (1996)
So you've probably heard of Fargo but I'm still going to put it on the list anyones because it's just too good to not. It is honestly a really funny dark comedy that you should just watch okay. The Coen brothers are great. Steve Buscemi face is icing on the cake.
10. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind(2004)
Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind is truly a whirlwind of emotions but it's one that you should watch. It's probably one of my favorite Michel Gondry films ever. I also recommend watching this on a rainy day with some hot chocolate and popcorn while curled up in bed.
While I may not be the biggest movie buff in the entire world, there's a part of me that does love watching a good film every now and then. Hopefully you'll find something on this list of my loves that you might fall in love with as well.
