After launching media streaming in 2007, Netflix has become one of the must-haves of our generation. Summer vacation wouldn't be the same without holing up in a room for a lengthy binge-watching period for at least a few weekends. It makes consuming media so easy and it's changed the way we watch television.
There is a variety of content on Netflix, from "Powerpuff Girls" to "Orange is the New Black," and everyone has the ability to find something that they'll thoroughly enjoy blowing through in a short amount of time. However, there are plenty of shows that are much less popular that need a little bit more attention. "Nikita," one of my favorite shows, is one of them.
You may have heard of the movie, "La Femme Nikita," on which the series is based, but I'm going to sell it to you anyways.
Meet Maggie Q, who plays our badass, rogue assassin Nikita. She's hiding out from this group called Division that takes convicts on death row and turns them into government assassins.
Division is a top secret government-funded organization. However, due to some... managerial issues, they're renting their agents' "services" more freely than the government anticipated upon their creation (read: they're killing for anyone who pays them well enough).
Nikita, once she broke away from the chaos that was Division, has brought it upon herself to take them down and burn Division to the ground.
It's not as easy as it looks though, so she needs a partner on the inside, someone who can gather intel from the inside. That's where Alex comes in.
Alex, a recovering crack addict, has become Nikita's right hand man, and she's pretty badass herself. Together, they make a hell of a team.
However, things aren't simple. There are a lot of obstacles that stand in the way:
Percy and Amanda, the terrible two that seem to run every operation that goes in and out of Division, sometimes directly and sometimes indirectly;
Michael, the brooding and loyal sidekick to Percy, who also happens to have taken a liking to Nikita while she was a new recruit;
and Birkhoff (code name: Nerd) who is probably the most kick-ass geek that I've ever seen. He's responsible for everything technological that goes on inside the walls of Division.
Basically, if you like action, drama, spies, thrillers or some romance here and there, Nikita is the show for you. You won't regret taking a few hours and watching the first few episodes. I'm sure you binge watched OITNB season 4 in a few days; what's a couple episodes?
What are you waiting for?
