The legendary Billy Joel has not released an album in almost 25 years, and yet he still manages to have one of the most incredible weeks of any artist this summer. In a matter of seven days, Joel managed to break a world record and pull off a surprise wedding that left audience members' heads spinning, all without breaking a sweat.
On July 1, Joel put on a concert at Madison Square Garden that changed history. In 2013, Joel was pronounced the first music franchise of MSG (known for its Rangers, Liberty and Knicks residencies), but that milestone was not enough for him. Since then, he has beat Elton John's record for the most performances by any artist and has become the holder of the longest residency at the Garden. Wednesday's 19th consecutive performance featured a special appearance by Kevin James, and was Joel's 65th concert at Madison Square.
To make his week even more exciting, Joel threw one of the most exciting Fourth of July parties his guests would ever see by tying the knot (for the fourth time) with Alexis Roderick, his girlfriend of five years. The party was held at Joel's Long Island estate, with 40 of the couple's closest friends (who had no clue that the two would be exchanging vows) and a gourmet menu featuring steaks, lobsters and other delicacies. The couple was wedded by New York Governor Cuomo and are expecting their first child.
Here's to Billy Joel's forever growing success!
