Another ban has been put on abortion and it's one of the most severe in the United States. In these bills past, the first recognized as the "heartbeat bill," which does not allow for an abortion when they can identify a heartbeat, which usually does not show up until 6 weeks into pregnancy. The second, does not allow for an abortion to take place at all when the pregnancy is 20 weeks in. Both bills were passed and both bills exclude women whose health may be endangered by the pregnancy. But what about the pregnancies from rape and incest? Nothing and that's not right.
Yes there is a means to travel out of state if needed to have an abortion in the case of rape or incest, but what will those without the financial means do? Where will they go? Making abortion illegal in Ohio will not stop it altogether. It is bound to happen in-state illegally or Ohioans traveling to and from someplace to have the procedure done.
If President elect Donald Trump sticks to his opinion of trying to overturn Roe vs Wade, this would be a big supporting step into making Ohio's own laws be those of the nation. "Republican Keith Faber, the president of the Ohio Senate, told The Associated Press on Tuesday that Trump's victory emboldened the Legislature to pass the heartbeat bill with the hopes that the courts will uphold it," according to Business Insider. Anti abortion rhetoric is spreading even more now in the leadership of our president elect and form what you've been reading you can probably tell I'm pro choice.
In voicing my own personal opinion, me being pro choice is not being pro abortion. I personally would not do it, but women should be the only voice in regards to what happens to their body and what they can do with it. Rape, incest, danger to health, or just being ill prepared to foster a child are just as a few things that can be viable reasons for an abortion. Women should not be subject to a law that basically means they have no choice in what can change THEIR entire life's choice. Everyone has a say in whether or not for a woman to keep a baby, but after when they keep it and they have no viable means of income, shelter or food there is no one adding in a word. Ohio should not be an example for other states, but an example that shows the governmental hinderance of reproductive rights and women's rights.
