As a retail major, fashion isn't just fun and games; it's a lifestyle. I'm always paying attention to the upcoming trends and trying to catch them before everybody else.
So, I decided to write a guide to spring fashion, in order to get a jump on things. May this guide help you be trendier than everyone you know.
1. The "Paper Bag" Waist
The first thing you all need to know is that this spring is all about reconstructing old silhouettes.
A good place to start is with the old "paper bag waist." This silhouette is traditionally seen on pants and can be incredibly flattering on everyone because it gives you a high, cinched-in waistline. So ladies, why wouldn't we take advantage of that and use it in a skirt? To be honest, I'm not quite sure why we haven't seen this one before.
2. Ever heard of "Millennial Pink?"
You heard me right, we have claimed our own shade of pink. This dusty pink is popping up everywhere this spring, so go be a true millennial and jump on the bandwagon.
3. Asymmetrical necklines
The asymmetrical neckline is another reconstructed silhouette for the spring.
Don't lie, we all remember those one-shouldered tank tops we used to wear in the early 2000's. But this trend is taking something from your Hannah Montana days and making it very 2018. After all, we've all learned how to appreciate a good T-Shirt by now.
4. Overalls, but not overalls
Overalls have been a thing since the 1700's. I guess fashion finally decided it was time for a makeover, so that's what we have here. It's not so much an overall, but the essence of an overall. But that's not a bad thing, right?
5. Lavender
One color that you're going to see throughout 2018 is "Ultra Violet" purple. Spring trends are taking that deep dark purple, and using more of a lavender hue to brighten things up.
6. Large florals
I'm not quite sure that this one will come as a shock to you, but floral is back for spring. Although this isn't a new concept, it is being re-imagined by using large print, rather than small, detailed print like in the past.
7. Denim distressed at the bottom
This is one of the biggest trends that I have seen for spring. Distressed denim has been a trend for a really long time now, so it's no wonder that it's getting a little re-vamp. It's time to stop putting holes in your knees, and instead just distress the bottom.
Spring is the best time for people to go crazy and try new things. So here are some words of advice as we go into spring with all of these new trends: try new things, don't be afraid to be bold, and most of all, just have so much fun with it. Because after all, even Yves Saint Laurent once said, “Fashion fades. Only style is eternal.”
