In my family, I'm the baby; which means that I have a big sister! I'm not sure if everyone shares my enthusiasm with this fact, but I think it's the coolest thing ever! I have someone who is so similar to me and some days knows me better than I know myself. In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I'm going to convince everyone that having a big sister is the biggest blessing in your life.
1. You always have twice the clothes. In high school, this was a very big issue, and probably the reason for most of our fights. But, now that we're older and both broke college kids, it saves us financially.
2. You have an in house psychiatrist. Her room is always open for you to come in and pour your heart out. She also doesn't ask that many questions because she already knows who you're talking about, all the backstory, and why it bothers you. It's a much cheaper option to keep you sane.
3. She tells you what you need to hear. I'm not saying she says what you WANT to hear. She will be completely honest with you no matter what. If she thinks you look bad in a certain color...she'll tell you. If she hates your new boyfriend...she'll tell you that too. But you know that it's always out of love, not spite.
4. You have a personal photographer. My sister and I LOVE photography. We always do sister photoshoots. If your outfit is on point and you want a bomb photo of it? No shame asking her to take a picture. There's no one else who would take 50 pictures of you in the same pose until you get THE ONE. Sisters understand.
5. She'll never tell your secrets. While she might not agree with everything you tell her, she won't dare tell a soul. Mostly because you know all her dirty little secrets too. You have an unspoken bond that what you tell your sister, stays with your sister.
6. You're never in short supply of live entertainment. My sister and I have so many jokes that make us laugh every. Single. Time. We sing Celine Dion karaoke like you've never heard before. It was a dream come true when Snapchat created the fast forward filter because we spent over an hour singing every song we knew just to hear it sound like the chipmunks.
7. She sets the standards high. Being the little sister, you can't be out shined by all your big sisters achievements (my sister has A LOT). Therefore, the healthy competition pushes you to do a little better in that one class or to be involved in something amazing.
8. With high standards comes the cheerleader. Your big sister will never feel threatened by your achievements. She will always be there to cheer for you and help you when you need it. She loves to see you succeed and shine your brightest.
9. You're a united front. When my sister and I were in grade school, we really wanted a puppy. I mean REALLY wanted one. We made a slide show, did research, and presented to our parents. Did we end up getting a puppy? No...but it was a great example of teamwork.
10. She's your best friend. No need to stress about who your maid-of-honor is going to be at your wedding. No need to ever feel alone. Your sister is the truest friend you will ever have in your life, and the best thing is that neither you or her can do anything about it.
