Being A Big Sister Means That I Have Big Shoes To Fill
Anna Kathryn Colbert

To my sweet little,

I cannot believe that it has been a whole year since I got my own big and joined the family. Fast forward, and now I have my own little to love on and welcome home. It is no secret that I have some big shoes to fill in our family, but I hope that I get to be everything to you that my big is to me. She has been there for all of my highs and lows over the past year. She provides guidance, whether it is helping me schedule classes or just keeping me in line. She is one of the few people who gets to see all the aspects of who I am, and she knows me just as well as I know myself.

She knows all of my strengths and weaknesses, and she knows when it's time to sit back and let me rant, or when I need a guiding hand. She is everything I could have ever asked for in a big, and I hope that I am half the big sister to you, that she has been to me. As you and I are just easing into our new big/little roles, here are some things you probably should know about me:

First and foremost, I am a cuddler. I can't help it - snuggles and hugs are my love language. Some of my friends are not the biggest fans of it and some love me for it. Hopefully, you fall into the latter category, but if not, I guess we can work around it. Other things I am a fan of are breakfast food, ocean waters from Sonic, weird vegetables, and crew socks - I am a huge sock person.

Now that I have covered my bases, it is time to talk about you. The biggest thing, is that I want to be kept in the know. I want to know when you are having a bad or great day. If you are angry, I am here to listen to you rant. If you are sad, I will be there to wipe your tears and hug you tight. When you have great news, tell me - I want to celebrate with you.

Speaking of celebrations, I know there will be many occasions to celebrate your victories. You are already an absolute rockstar. Yes, obviously I am biased, but you really are brilliant in every way. You are one of the most intelligent freshmen I know, and I know you are going to do big things on our campus, and within our chapter.

Greater than that though, you have a heart of gold. All who know you, cherish you, and you have an aura of joy that is infectious. You are so genuine, and you embody everything that our sisterhood stands for. You make me so so so proud already, and I cannot wait to watch you grow over these next many years.

You will have your ups and your downs, but I hope you know that you are never alone. You are prayed for, and you are looked after. I want to be able to be here for you whenever you need me; that is what I am here for. I am your newest cheerleader, advocator, and motivator. I am always on your side, and I am here, for not just these next three years, but the long haul. You now have a big, grand big, and great grand big who would do anything for you, and we are here for life.

Over the years, my favorite job ever has been to be a older sister to my biological brother. Now I get to be a big sister to you, and I am still just as excited about it as I was on big/little reveal night. I cannot wait to make tons of memories with you. Here's to all the soccer games, movie nights, Sonic runs, laugh-till-you-cry moments, and everything in between. You are a true gem, and I am beyond lucky to call you my little sister.

I love you loads little one,

xoxo

your big

I've known you your entire life. More than likely I held you in the first three days of it and at least one of us cried. Cousins are truly one of the best things in the world and while sometimes I complain about how many people crowd Grandma's living room on Christmas Eve, I wouldn't trade you all anything.

You are my best friends, the only people who can understand what it's like on Thanksgiving, and you are the spunkiest people I have ever met. But you as so so young, most of you are just now starting your adventures in the public education system. I mean, I'm so very young too. I'm not married, I don't have children, heck, I just started my adult life, but I do want to give you what little advice I have. My dears, these are the things I want you to know.

You are a senior in high school, you have made it to the final year that you have been looking forward to since the first day of freshman year. Whether this has been the worst or best four years of your life, appreciate it. You will never have these times back, you will never be in high school again. It is hard for someone still in high school to wrap their brain around, but there will be a day when you wish you could be in the shoes you're in right now. Here are 15 things I have learned being in college that I wish I knew as a high school senior:

Everyone, and I mean everyone has heard of the show "One Tree Hill". Many people think that this show is the best thing they've ever watched and others won't bother watching it because they know they'll get hooked. And yes, I know many people have written about this show before, but I couldn't resist. I could re-watch every season multiple times to the point where I can almost quote an entire scene. Trust me, once you start "One Tree Hill", you will be hooked. There's way too many reasons to list as to why you'll love this show, and these are just a few.

The first two weeks of classes have come to an end and they have been anything BUT easy. It seems like life has been serving up more bad than good and in all honesty, the only thing you want to do is crawl under your covers and hide from the rest of the world.

Although this seems like the best solution, it is also the easy way out. Take it from the girl who took basically a whole week off from her life because she just could not handle everything that was being thrown at her. This caused her to feel extremely lonely and even more stressed out for being behind in classes that JUST began.
