Why Having A Big Sister Is The Best

Yeah, she has that annoying seniority rule under her thumb, but you are still benefitting too.

Why Having A Big Sister Is The Best

There are a lot of conflicting views on which is better, having an older sibling or a younger one. I'm sure both of them have their perks but I will say this, I would not be the person I am today without having had an older sister.

My sister and I are a seven-year spread which is pretty drastic. To put it in perspective, her freshman year of college was my sixth-grade year. That age gap meant that I had a sibling to model every stage of life that lied before me. When she was in middle school I would sit behind her watching the computer while she wrote to her friends on AIM, thinking about what important things they were discussing, even if it was just how dumb so-and-so's outfit was at school that day.

In sixth grade, I thought having an older sister in college was about the coolest thing ever. Most of my friends only had younger sisters so I would roll up to school with my iPod touch some days and show off a current Facebook post of hers where she was all dressed up and collegiate looking.

I always had someone to do my hair and makeup for dances which was the best. My sister has great style so I never had to ask someone else's sister or mom with shaky at best makeup skills to work on me right before the big night. Definitely a plus there.

And now that I am well into college the playing field has kind of level for the first time while growing up and it is nice to be able to lend advice as well as receive it. We can toast together at family events now, work together on planning surprises or gifts for our parents, and send each other funny posts on social media.

It's so fun to have her come back to KU and relive her college days alongside of mine now and it's fun to see that I've made it to where I used to look up to. So a big thanks to my sister for always giving me something to look forward to and a lot of help along the way.

8 Things I Realized After My First Semester In College

Actually, Kylie Jenner, 2018 is the year of realizing things.

The first semester of college is famous for being one of the most difficult transitions of one's young adult life. You're thrown into a completely new area where the majority of the people surrounding you are strangers in an academic environment that's much more challenging then what you've grown accustomed to for the past twelve years. On top of that, you probably share a room with another person (or even multiple people) on the lumpiest "mattress" you've ever slept on.

With this change comes a lot of questions: what do I want to major in? What am I passionate about? Is what I'm passionate about something I'm actually good at? Why does the bathroom smell like cranberry juice and vodka? What is that thing at the bottom of the shower drain?

6 Unrealistic Expectations Society Has For Young Adults

Don't let the thesaurus-inspired vocabularies in our résumés fool you. We're actually just big kids.

Well over four feet tall and 100 pounds in weight, many of us "young adults" of the world still consider ourselves children. Big, working, college-attending, beer-drinking children. We may live on our own, know how to cook noodles, and occasionally use a planner, but don't be fooled; the youthful tendencies that reside within us still make their way into our daily lives. From choosing to stay up until 3:00 a.m. playing video games on a school night to going out in 30 degree weather without a coat, we still make decisions that our parents and grandparents would shake their heads at in disappointment. So why are we expected to know exactly how to be a wise, professional, sensible adult? It's not that we're irresponsible (for the most part, anyway). It's that we are young, inexperienced, and still have the sought-after, enthusiastic mentality that we can do and be whatever we want, which has not yet been tarnished by the reality of the world. These are just a few of the unrealistic expectations that society has for young adults.
