"Big Mouth" is a dirty comedy show filled with hormone-raging teenagers and their hormone monsters. The characters are navigating the terrible life that is middle school and how they cope with the terrible thing that is puberty. The show seems to be another dirty comedy that only invokes humor, but it talks about much more than hormone-raging kids. The third season focuses on some pretty important issues that teenagers may face.
Firstly, the characters portray a lot of diversity. Jessie's mom divorces her dad and explores her sexuality by dating a woman. Jay, a seemingly "straight" guy, comes out as bisexual after a new student that's pansexual comes to school. Additionally, we see representation in the black community from Missy and her parents, who happen to be a biracial couple.
Within the new third season, the writers address issues like kids struggling with their sexuality. There is a whole episode dedicated to Jay and his exploration of his sexuality. The viewers follow his experimentation through season two, and he is finally able to come to a place of comfort with his sexuality. He then comes out to the rest of his class, but many don't take him seriously. Sadly, this is the actual reality of kids who are struggling with something like their sexuality. Although, he goes through the rest of the season embracing himself, and his classmates come to accept him.
Additionally, a whole episode focuses on the objectification of women and how school dress codes can perpetuate those ideologies. The girls in the school were tired of being objectified by the boys and the sexist ideas that the school dress code enforced.
The show is full of hilarious content but focuses on problems that all kids and people go through in our society. Many have discussed how the "woke culture" ruins comedy, but "Big Mouth" is able to create humor while talking about important issues. Definitely a must-watch for everyone.
