Almost two months ago, I attended the events of Recruitment Week for Sigma Alpha Iota, a music fraternity on campus. I never really thought Greek life would be for me, and my sister was shocked when I told her I'd been going to the events (and actually enjoying them!). I had these preconceived notions of what Greek life would be like. Too much partying, too much drinking, and not for me.
I told my mom throughout the week that I wasn't sure if I'd end up becoming apart of SAI, but the events were fun (PJs and puzzles?! What's better than that?) and I liked meeting new people, despite the unavoidable awkwardness that came around because we barely knew each other. At the end of the week, I received an invitation to membership, found myself accepting it, and started on the path to becoming a sister.
On the night of our pledging ceremony, I found out who my big sister was, and I couldn't be more grateful to have her in my life. Hannah, thank you for the cute text messages you send me, motivating me through my day. Thank you for the gifts you give me that make me smile. Thank you for helping me to study for the exam, and for putting up with my anxious self. Through you, I've learned what it is like to have a family in music. Seeing how much SAI means to you has made me excited to be the kind of big you are to my future little. I've learned what it means to be myself. Thank you for making sure I get enough sleep, even though no amount of sleep is ever enough. Thank you for going to the ends of the earth to find me when I'm not in my room (sorry about that!). Thank you for pushing me to be a better musician and a better person. Thank you for loving me unconditionally. Thank you for always believing in me. You are a ray of sunshine in my life. You are the best. I love you!
