One Easy Way To Make A Big Impact With Little Effort

You know the kind of things your congressional leaders like?

What YOU have to say. And why would they like that?

Because as a constituent of their congressional district this shows them what bills their constituents want them to support! And yet, it's not very common to find people mobilized to reach out to their own Representatives in Congress.

Research from 'The Borgen Project' shows that you'll often find that constituents neglect the power they have in contacting their leaders over the phone with a 30-second phone call asking for bill support or using a few clicks to send them a pre-written email for bill support.

If you know your zip code, have the ability to make phone calls and know that you want to help people then The Borgen Project will do the rest. When you go on their website to make phone calls or email them, you just need to enter your zip code and then you'll only need to call your leaders or hit send on the pre-written email.

"What is this Borgen Project you speak of?"

You know, I know we've only been talking for a while but I feel like you're pretty smart. What a great question! The Borgen Project is one of the greatest opportunities to make a big impact with little effort.

The Borgen Project is a national, non-profit organization who fights for the underdog at the political level to downsize global poverty. Sound like a lot? But they make it very practical and easy!

"Why focus on the political level?"

Wow, you're so deep! Great Question! The Borgen Project recognizes that policy influences poverty rates. The research all over their platform is filled with evidence on how the mission of global poverty can be reached more effectively from, for example, changing policies that provide a host of resources for a region versus sponsoring one starving child. What about changing the rules around so now anyone living on $1 a day and all of their friends and family can have the same opportunity of resources?

Is this not beautiful? Now donations aren't "a drop in the bucket" because you're donating to policy changes that will help the masses versus a few! And if our aim to change is global we should have a global strategy, right?

"Alright, alright. How can I help/get involved?"

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
