A Big Brother's Letter To His Little Sister

Although my sister is four years younger than me, I can always count on her to give me a hard dose of reality.

To my little sister,

Being a big brother is one of my best accomplishments.

Having a little sister is most likely one of the best things that's ever going to happen to me. Although she's four years younger than me, I have learned so much from her, and I don't think I would be the person I am today without her. For example, I have learned the right way to treat all women because I would hope that some lucky guy out there would treat my sister the same way. First, though, let me explain what it's like being a big brother to someone who is not only your family but also your friend.

Your needs come second.

My mom always told me how important it was for my other siblings and I to look out for each other. But, when it came to my little sister, we always made sure she was OK first. Being not only the youngest, but the only girl out of three boys, made her the princess she is today. She always get taken special care of because without her, I don't think my family would have nearly as much joy as we do today. She's the light in our family that is always shining because nothing gets her down. Of course, she has her days when she's struggling with things, but even then, she never fails to make everyone in my family smile.

She's my role model.

Even though she's four years younger than me, my sister has taught me so much about life. I have learned how to be patient with people, see other viewpoints, and I have definitely learned to be a good listener! I think the most important thing I've taken away from the bond I have with my sister is knowing I can't be as rough and harsh with all of the other women who may come and go in my life. I've always known that women have every capability of a man, but my sister reinforced the idea that women can literally do what any man can, and I find that truly inspirational.

So, Amihya, I would like to thank you one last time for being my best friend, the best little sister and a role model to your crazy, older brother. I hope you continue working hard for whatever you hope to achieve because I believe you will be extremely successful in whatever you choose to pursue in your life. I'm so glad we have the amazing bond that we have, and I wouldn't trade it for a thing in the world!

Thank you for being the best person in the world.

Love,

Your big brother

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
