Happy Birthday Logan

Big Brother: Role Model, Hero, Best Friend

I have been a little sister all my life.. literally. At first you think, "maybe i am not cut out for this job," (not that you have a choice.) I mean really, who is this person who thinks they can boss me around, that just because they are bigger than me they get the last say?! Well, that is my big brother and this article in honor of his birthday is to say why having an older brother is so great! Happy Birthday Logan!

So yea, all i have said above is true and like any younger sister there were many moments when i was younger where i was not the most thrilled about an older brother. As i am sure many have, we do not appreciate those around us when we are young yet, as we grow and mature we begin to realize just how much they do and mean to us. Sure, my brother when we were younger tormented me as older brothers do. Taking every chance he could to scare me, tickle me until i could not breathe, and all the other classic older brother moves. I have been locked in a closet for a brief amount of time, strapped to the pole in our basement and never got my pick of character when we played games.

So now that i have reassured everyone that my brother fulfilled his job of tormenting older brother, let me tell you about the wonderful adventures that i would not change for the world, despite how they never quite went as plan. My brother was my role model. Even as he tormented me i looked up to him for guidance, and i still do. His kindness, maturity (never thought i would say that!) and work ethic constantly surprise and inspire me to follow in his foot steps. When we were younger my brother suggested that we go on a 12 mile bike ride. Now 12 miles in its self is long, especially when the area in which you live is all hills (no this is not an exaggerations. Let us just say it was a very, very long day. Especially when it started raining at about mile 6. There is a really steep road by my house called Filkins Hill, and because younger sisters never learn their lesson when my brother suggested we ride our bikes down it i was all for it! I will say the five minute ride down was a lot of fun! The two or so hours to walk back up however, were not as thrilling.

My brother, is the person most closely related to me. I know that i can always turn to him to talk to and for advice and i always hope he knows that i am here for him as well. We have stuck together through thick and thin, ( even when i tried to strangle you when i was like 6 months old). Climbing to the top of mount Marcy together, helping stack wood, binge watching marvel movies and jamming out in the car on road trips together. The older i get the clearer i see that you have been my best friend all along, watching out for me even when you were tormenting me. I knew that while you gave me grief at times that you would be there for me and never let anyone else get away with it.

I wish i could spend your birthday with you but this will have to do! So here is the happiest of birthdays to the very best of brothers! HAPPY BIRTHDAY LOGAN!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies.
