“Oh my gosh, Bid Day is literally Christmas!” –said every single sorority girl talking to PNMs during recruitment week.
Bid Day is unlike any other day. For the new members, you wait all day to receive your bid card from your Rho Gamma and then run home while very sweaty to a group of 200 women with your name waiting on the front lawn. It’s your first day in your new home that will last you all of your college years.
For me, and anyone, anywhere who is in PC’15 for their chapter, this year was the first Bid Day on the other side. After two full weeks of living and breathing recruitment, you finally feel a weight lifted off your shoulders.
Looking past all of the glitter, and flash tats, and face paint, you realize that you love your sorority more than you could have thought. Recruitment brings everyone together and you bond like no other. Last year running home to my new home, I was so ecstatic that I was finally in a sorority. Fast forward one year, now initiated and feel as if my sorority has become a large part of who I am, I can fully say that I had no idea what was in store for me on my very first bid day.
Bid Day is the fun and glamorous part of joining a sorority. It takes over all social media and the themes are all perfectly planned out. But what PNMs don’t realize, and what I certainly I did not realize, is that being in a sorority is all abut what comes after Bid Day.
Sisterhood is a pretty prevalent topic of discussion during recruitment week but it's still just a word. Going through recruitment, I thought I understood what it meant but you don't truly know what it means until you become a part of it. It’s sitting at lunch at the house seeing who can fit the most goldfish into their mouth. It’s sitting in the kitchen for 12 straight hours studying for finals with your sisters. It’s having someone to talk to at any hour of the day if you need to vent. It’s being at your lows of lows and still having the same people by your side when you felt on top of the world.Bid Day on the other side makes you realize how blessed you are to be in such an amazing sisterhood and you fall in love with your sisters all over again. The excitement is pouring out; from the new members to the seniors.
