A Biblical View On Beauty

You are altogether beautiful, my darling; there is no flaw in you.

Lately, I have struggled with my self esteem. I know that many women and girls also struggle with feeling beautiful in their skin. Well today we are gonna debunk the lies we tell ourselves.

A lot of women's main problem is their weight. Some think they are too skinny and others think they are too fat.The thing is we are all built differently. God has crafted us all and called us beautiful. If you are a size 2 or size 22 you are perfectly beautiful in your own way. However, we don't all struggle with weight some struggle with simply feeling beautiful. Due to the media and our secular opinions on beauty, we feed ourselves lies and put on layer after layer of makeup to try and feel beautiful, when really we are just beautiful simply as ourselves. I constantly try to remind myself that just because I don't look like every model in a magazine that doesn't mean that I am not beautiful too.

For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother's womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.(Psalm 139:13-14)

Fearfully and wonderfully made. We see such beauty in the flowers and trees, but never in ourselves. When really we were created by the same artist and we are priceless pieces of artwork. He calls us beautiful and his love is enough to remind me of my beauty and worth.Whenever I feel fat I remind myself I am thinking of the world's version of beauty and not my God's.

Beauty also shouldn't be thought of as simply outward appearance. If your heart is cold and your actions and words are ugly, are you actually beautiful? Beauty should be measured in your personality, your ability to love and care, and your will to serve the Lord. The bible reminds us multiple times that beauty isn't focused on the outside.

Do not let your adorning be external ,the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear, but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.(1 Peter 3:3-4)

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.”(1 Samuel 16:7)

Charm is deceitful, and beauty is vain,
but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.(Proverbs 31:30)

So the next time you look in the mirror and start to question your beauty, remember not only are you a perfect artwork of the Lord, but your inward beauty surpasses it all.

I would also like to highly recommend the song "Priceless" by the band Four King and Country. It is one I listen to frequently and it always reminds me of how beautiful I am!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
