Bible Verses For The Overwhelmed College Student

College is supposed to be the place you determine how the rest of your life is going to go within 4 years. It's as if you're supposed to have everything figured out and all the answers to all of your problems. But sadly, that isn't the truth. Just like any other college student, we deal with bouts of stress, depression, anxiety, and the feeling of being overwhelmed. We get tired easily and just want to drop everything and give up. And sometimes, we get faced with temptation everyday, and sometimes its hard to face it. Yeah, we have our friends to lean on and go to for advice, or we can just simply pick up the phone and call our parents. But what if it isn't enough? What if we're still overwhelmed?

We are God's chosen people; he challenges us to grow and love him. He wants us to tell others about him and glorify his name. Life throws us many curve balls, and sometimes when the going gets tough, it gets hard to dodge what is thrown at us. But he wants us to lean on his word in times of sorrow, when we're hurting, and when we're broken and have nowhere else to turn to so that we may find peace and comfort in his word. These verses may not solve your problems, but they can definitely be encouragement for you.

When you're feeling stressed:

Psalm 94:19 "When your anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought me joy."

Psalm 37:5 "Commit your way to the lord; Trust in him and he will do this."

When you're overwhelmed:

2 Corinthians 12:9 "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."

1 Peter 5:7 "Cast all of your anxiety on him, for he cares for you."

When you're faced with temptation:

1 Corinthians 10: 12-13 "Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall. No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it."

When you experience grief:

Joshua 1:9 "Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."

Romans 8:28 "And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose."

Matthew 5:4 "Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted."

When you are tired:

Isaiah 40:31 "But they who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint."

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
