Bias In The Media Today

Is fake news really a thing?

All throughout President Trump’s campaign and still to this day, Trump has been a huge critic of the media, as well as many other Republicans. Trump’s top claims are that the media is spitting out “Fake News,” and sources such as MSNBC and CNN aren’t reliable whereas Fox News is. This brings up a really great point though, is the media being more biased now than ever before? Much of the nation didn’t want Trump to become President, and more people want to see him fail rather than succeed. That being said, there clearly is a bias throughout the nation regarding Trump, and this has impacted many news outlets.

To start, let’s go over one of the most basic rules of journalism: be as un-biased as possible and just report the facts. This has been one of the oldest rules in journalism, but over time media outlets have evolved to sway one way or the other for views. People wanted news to fit their political views, so some outlets have swayed left, such as MSNBC, and others swayed right, such as Fox News. Outlets such as the New York Times and CNN are in the middle, not really swaying to one side more than the other.

As soon as Trump’s campaign started about two years ago, the media was fine; reporting was the same it’s been and articles toward Trump weren't really swayed one way. As soon as Trump started to actually speak what was on his mind, the media went crazy. Every media outlet started to publicize Trump for everything that he was saying, hoping it would hurt him in the polls, when in reality it helped him. However, due to all of this, the media started becoming more biased than it’s ever been. Once the media and the world started realizing Trump had an actual chance of winning the election, more and more news outlets started becoming insanely biased and everything was against Trump. It didn’t matter what the story was; he could have done something nice for someone but the left side of the media would just focus on the negative parts of it. Even to this day they still only criticize him and not focus on the news.

That being said, is the media out to get Trump? Is fake news really a thing? I believe that the media has it out for Trump. News outlets are insanely biased towards him, and all you ever see in the news is negative headlines pertaining to him. And I do believe some outlets exaggerate or fixate on certain facts just to make him look bad. You want to know what the worst part about all of this is? It’s affecting the nation. Badly. By turning the nation against your own President, you are creating turmoil in this country more than Trump is. Why do you think there have been so many “peaceful” protests, or might I say riots? Because the media advocates for this behavior and doesn’t report the negative effects of it. All that they’re worried about is burying Trump no matter what the consequences are.

So, I have one thing to say to all the media outlets out there. Stick to the facts. Please. The country is better off without your political views coming into the news. Your one job is to report on the news with the facts. That’s it. So, stop only reporting on what you believe will burry Trump, and give us the full story. Thanks.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.
