Beyond Michelle Tanner: The Olsen Twins

The twins we grew up loving have become so much more than a cute face

Beyond Michelle Tanner: The Olsen Twins

Still hanging in the air, the smell of dinner collided with the fresh bubbles and shampoo scent that were produced from the quick showers we all took. My cousins and I were all in our matching PJ sets laying in a pallet that my aunt made us, anxiously waiting for the VHS tape to rewind. Tonight's feature was, "Billboard Dad," and as it started I quickly made the distinction that I was Ashley and my cousin, Emmy, was Mary Kate. Fast forward a couple years, I am trying to pick out a dress for my freshman year Homecoming, I'm still slightly awkward--trying to work my way out of my middle school phrase--and I come upon a line called Elizabeth and James. I instantly feel in love, even without the knowledge that the geniuses behind were none other than MK and Ashley Olsen.

I am sure we all have similar stories to my own, growing up as girls in this generation. These memories seem to, at one point, link back to a deep love for the precious twins that taught us how to throw a slumber party, run away from home and of course, how to find our way back again. Since I was the ripe age of eight, my cousin and I were so gratefully introduced to THE Mary Kate and Ashley Movies. Girls, if you don't know the fabulous movie series that I am referring to, please stop what you are doing, put on your comfy clothes and pop some popcorn because The Mary Kate and Ashley Movies are possibly the voice of our generation. If you aren't familiar let me catch you up--starting off as Michelle on Full House, these twins grew up in front of our eyes and right along with us. Surprisingly some-what underrated Mary Kate and Ashley claim titles as tv stars, movie stars, fashion designers, creative directors, producers, authors and overall icons. This past June, the twins had their thirtieth birthday and in those short 30 years, MKA has given us hours of VHS entertainment, piercing editorial snapshots and more than one fashion line. These fashion moguls take us there with high end designs but first won our hears cheesing from ear to ear and saying, "you got it dude." Lets honor that sweet connect and show our favorite set of twins in their best light!

Mary Kate and Ashley's B E S T Moments;)

Billboard Dad, 1998

Okay who doesn't love some color tinted sunnies? MK and Ashley are poster children for how to dress in the 90's. I specifically remember going to Limited Too and trying to find glasses just like these along with a stellar popcorn shirt. IF you were a true MK and Ashley fan, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Passport to Paris, 1999

Honestly don't remember who Kyle is, but I would definitely chose Leo. These girls asked all the big questions and truly gave us unrealistic expectations on our future travel plans--in this case, to Paris. I am loving Ashley's headband slash bandana combination and I have a good feeling it's gonna make a comeback in a Claire's near you.

When in Rome, 2002

This is when jean jackets were in their prime! I just recently came back from Italy and my mom send me a jean jacket because it was the perfect outerwear for my "Roman holiday". During the early 2000's was when it started to get easy to tell Ashley from Mary Kate and vice versa, thanks to curly and straight hair--quite the pivotal moment.

Mary Kate in New York Minute, 2007 as Roxanne Ryan--total BA

Can you tell them apart???

During this time unfortunately, Mary Kate went public about her struggle with bulimia. Being an actress so young, growing up in the the spotlight and especially being involved with high fashion possible all attributed to her illness, but never the less MK took the right persuasions to get better. To admit you have a problem, especially to the world, is one of the strongest things I have seen a celebrity do and for that MK has definitely earned the respect and love of her fans.

I swear they made round glasses a trend! Also an insider found out their secret to the perfect pout in every picture! They simply mouth the word "prune" before a shot! I know the average girl just goes to so many fashion shows over the weekend ha ha ha--but if you are brave enough pull a cute smug out downtown or a girls night out with friends! Confidence is key, learn from MK and Ash.

Today Mary Kate and Ashley are thirty years old, Mary Kate is married to investment banker, Olivier Sarkozy and Ashley is currently with Bennett Miller. They are both still killing it and being the inspiring, trendy selves. So heres, to the world's favorite twins!! YGGs!

When it comes to Bloomington-Normal, there are many outstanding factors that any Illinois State student can say are unique to our college town (and maybe others too). Proud or not, we Redbirds know all the ins and outs of Blono.

1. The wait for Buffalo Wild Wings is always going to be long on Thursday nights.

As hard as we try, it's nearly impossible to resist the 69-cent wings on a college student budget. Plus, they are always delicious!
