On May 23rd, 2016, I had the opportunity to go to Beyonce's concert at TCF Bank Stadium, and I don't think I'll ever be the same.
Minneapolis was the 12th stop on Bey's Formation World Tour, and it was certainly a sight to see.
Beyoncé was scheduled to start performing at about 8:00 p.m., but the show was postponed and TCF Bank Stadium was temporarily evacuated due to severe weather. By the time everyone was back in their seats, and the show started it was about 9:30 p.m.
She started the show with "Formation," hence the tour's name. But before she started singing, she asked the crowd if we were ready to slay, if we came here to slay, and if we will continue to slay. Yes. Yes. And yes, Bey.
Bey performed the majority of the songs off of her new album "Lemonade" but also performed some classic Beyoncé songs like "Crazy in Love," "Countdown" and "Drunk in Love." She also threw in some Destiny's Child classics like "Bootylicious" and "Survivor." I don't think she missed one note, everything sounded flawless.
Not only were her vocals goddess-like, but her message to her fans radiates positivity. Bey wanted all her fans in the crowd to understand that if you work your butt off, you too can make a name for yourself.
Her stage set up consisted of a moving cube screen that could split in half and rotate in a circle. On this screen, during her outfit changes and during her songs, she displayed snippets from her "Lemonade" film.
One of the parts of the concert was when she showed "throwback" footage of her and Jay-Z raising their precious daughter, Blue Ivy, together. She also showed a video of her 16 year-old self bragging about her belly button ring she had just gotten for her birthday. Beyoncé also thanked her fans for always supporting her and encouraging her to do what she loves. It was all real cute.
Her stage set up also included an L shaped runway that grew out of the main stage. At the end of the L shape part was a section of the stage that filled with about 2 feet of water for the big finale of the concert. Her and her backup dancers were literally dancing in a pool. A pool. This unique feature added to the fabulous visuals she had in her concert set up.
Right before she finished off the night by singing "Halo," she stated how she is just a girl from Texas out her doing what she loves, and that she loves and appreciates us, that's when the fireworks started going off above the stadium and the tears started streaming down my face.
I wasn't the biggest Beyoncé fan before the concert, but afterwards I am totally in love with her. Extra bonus: I didn’t even have to pay for my ticket. One of my best friends surprised me with tickets for an early birthday present. We danced our butts off and sang so loud we both lost our voice's the next day. Although in "nose bleed seats," we were still in the Queen’s presence, and that’s all we needed.
