A new year brings us that time again to see all of the posts that say: "New year, New me." But it makes me question why we need a new year to change ourselves. Common resolutions are:
1. Lose weight
2. Drink less
3. Quit a bad habit
4. Save money
5. Reduce stress
The list goes on. The question that resounds is "Why have such huge resolutions that are easily broken?"
So this article suggests more attainable goals for a better year with things you can control.
1. If you would like to lose weight, start off small.
One mile is the equivalent of 2,000 steps. The recommended steps to begin to lose weight is 10,000. Try and walk at least 2,000 a day. That is a small requirement that you could add on to. Add an app to help keep you in check.
2. We forget how much we drink.
To attain this goal, keep track of how much you drink and let that be a set limit for how much you drink. For example, if you used to drink five a week. try and cut it to three next week. Write it down.
3. Remember what it is you love about yourself.
Oftentimes we get caught up in the hype that we have to change. We don't though. So at least once a month remind yourself what it is that you love about you.
4. Do something for yourself and only you.
5. Say No more.
If you don't want to do something, don't agree to it. If it will add more stress to your life, say no.
6. Don't miss out on life.
Don't get too caught up in work, or cleaning. Spend time with family, friends, yourself. Travel if you get the chance, go to a family members' recital, give yourself relaxation time, or go out to that hot new club with your best friend.
7. Drink more water!
Try and get those eight glasses in a day and reap the benefits that will come along with it. There's a app to help you with this one too!
8. Turn off your phone for at least an hour.
All those cat posts will still be there when you return; precious time spent with a loved one won't be.
9. Do more nice things.
With all of the bad that fills society, try and cancel it out with random acts of kindness. Hold a door open, give a compliment, carry groceries, pay for the order behind you... you can do anything that might make a difference to someone.
10. Slow down.
Slow down sometimes and think about the love that surrounds you. Appreciate your time. Don't rush through your life.
I wish you all a very Happy New Year, with resolutions that might make your life better instead of changing who you are.
