'Boo' Humbug! Spooky Season Is Scarily Overrated Next To These 5 Holidays

OK, OK, I realize that everyone is in love with Halloween here.

There are people in my dorm who have already started decorating for Halloween and I'm, like, "Yikes, chill, is it really that serious?" The answer is no.

In general, fall isn't as amazing as everyone makes it out to be. But Halloween isn't even the best holiday ever, although that's what everyone chooses when we ask.

Here are five holidays that are actually so much better than Halloween:

Christmas

I understand that not everyone celebrates Christmas. Yes, I know that, I am aware. But for those of us who do, you know how great it is. You get to be around family and if you're close with your family, that's always really fun. There are always amazing meals to be eaten. The turkey, the ham, the stuffing, the cranberry sauce; it's all there for your enjoyment. And the movies? So many great movies for you to watch!

It's basically Christmas, part one! You still get all the food, family and friends that you would at Christmas but a month earlier. Plus, it's still technically fall, so you can have all of your fall leaves and pumpkin flavored desserts that you'd normally have at Halloween. But it's later and actually cool outside, so it's better.

Independence Day

Not that I'm super pro-America, but I do like that there's a specific color palette associated with July 4th and WOW, barbecues really are the best, most American invention I can think of. And it's always warm on the Fourth of July, so you never have to worry about sweaters or being too cold. Oh, and did I mention fireworks?!

St. Patrick's Day

Again, I love a holiday with a specific color! Everything is green; your food, your drinks, your clothes and possibly even your hair. Plus, it's always a fun time to hang out with friends!

Easter

Again, I get that not everyone is religious. And that's completely OK! But for those of us who have experienced it, there's always a great meal involved. Not to mention, the fact that there are always Easter egg hunts, cute pastel colored eggs and candies. Truly, what's better than eggs and spring?!

So the next time you're obsessed with Halloween, remember that there are other wonderful holidays that exist that do not involve pumpkins and fake costumes.

It's officially December. There is less than a month of 2024, and I still feel like yesterday was summer. Now comes the merriest time of the year, the Christmas season.

Everyone has been waiting for this time of year since mid-October (which is way too early, in my opinion) or before. It's a time of love, family, memory-making, and gift-giving. A lot of times when I ask friends and family what they want, I get a lot of "I don't know" or "I don't care."
