As I sit here and struggle through my online summer classes, I feel like I am steering the struggle bus. I haven't been organizing my assignments or my notes the way I usually do and I just feel like I'm not applying myself the way that I should be. So this upcoming fall semester, here are some things that I promise I'll do in hopes of having the best semester ever.

1. Sit up front in class

Usually, I head straight for the back, but this semester I want to sit almost up front. That way the professor knows who I am and recognizes my face. Then they'll know that I want to be there and dedicate time to their class.

2. Get to know my professors

I have never done this, and I probably would have better experiences if I did. I can't wait to see how this affects my time in the classroom.

3. Go to office hours

I have never gone to office hours either. I promise this upcoming semester that if I am ever struggling with a topic, that I will go to office hours instead of wallowing myself in pity because I don't understand something.

4. Set up my planner before classes start

Once I get my syllabi, I plan on putting in all due dates before the first week is even over! That way I can prepare for any assignments or exams approaching.

5. Ask questions

I promise myself that I will always ask questions in class that way I never leave class confused or feeling frustrated because I can't understand a concept.

6. Set apart time before exams and give me time to ACTUALLY study

I am the worst at cramming the night before an exam. However, I am hoping this semester to start studying a week in advance for any quizzes or assignments.

7. Get to class early

I can be pretty good about this tip, but I want to continue to arrive to class early on time because it gives me time to set out all of my materials and get my brain ready for whatever class I am in at that moment.

8. Try not to skip

Now I am not referring to getting perfect attendance, but I plan on not skipping class just because I'm tired or feeling lazy.

9. Pay attention to my mental health more

During the semester, I can get anxious over upcoming assignments or whether or not I am doing good enough in school and it really affects my mental health. This semester I plan on setting aside plenty of time to take breaks and relax from the stress of the semester.

10. Give it my best

As I am my worst critic, I promise that I will always give my best on every assignment, every time. I cannot wait to give it my all and enjoy my time in my classes.

If you're worried about your class load this upcoming semester, just relax and try to apply the above tips and tricks and see if they work for you! You've got this!

28 Daily Thoughts of College Students

"I want to thank Google, Wikipedia, and whoever else invented copy and paste. Thank you."

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
