An Open Letter To My Best Friend

Because you've never left my side.

This may sound cheesy, but thank you for just being there. Even if we say it all the time or not at all, I wanted to say thank you for being my best friend and for never leaving my side. It takes a special person to not get annoyed or frustrated by my little ticks, but you;re still here.

Thank you for showing me that life doesn't always have to be planned out. That when I want things to go my way and I have everything planed out, that it's OK for something to go wrong. You let me know not to stress over the little things or the things I can't control.

Thank you for showing me that food can also be my best friend. No matter what we could be doing, if food is brought up, that's all we can think about from that moment on. You never judge me on what or how much I eat, but indulge just as much as me.

Thank you for showing me how to be brave. You have showed more times than not how to be someone who speaks their mind. Someone who isn't afraid to do the things they want or say the things they need to say. You showed me to stand up for myself, but even more importantly, that you would stand up for me when I couldn't.

Thank you for showing me that it's OK to have feelings. Whether the feelings are outrageous or understandable, you showed me that it's important to share them. You encouraged me to show how I felt and open myself up to being vulnerable. Even if my feelings were outrageous, you told me straight up.

Thank you for opening up your house to me. Your family brought me in as their own and I felt more part of the family than just a friend. Even if you aren't home, I'm comfortable enough to hang out there.

Thank you for sharing your life with me. We've spent hours and hours together, but nothing seems to compare to that time. Every time we're together, there never seems to be enough time to talk about all the latest gossip or recent news. Every minute that we've spent together has changed us in certain ways and that's something that we'll take with us forever.

Thank you for showing me that life is better with someone to share it with. Even if you're going for a late night food run, it's always better to have someone with you. Even if you're just spending a little time together, it'll always be more fun with you.

Thank you for being more than a best friend to me, but more like a sister. It's no wonder people get us confused or think were related. Even if we do argue like sisters sometimes and people think we're actually upset with each other, there couldn't be a better choice to be my best friend.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
