The best and worst things about being a girl

There is no doubt that women are beautiful creatures. Being a woman is a powerful thing, however, its far from easy. There are both negative and positive aspects of womanhood and I am here to ramble about a few of those aspects.

1. PERIODS

It is probably to no surprise why I included this as number 1. Let’s face it, periods are actual hell. We make our plans around our cycle schedule, stock up on sweets and curl up in a literal ball of pain. Aside from the agonizing pain and inconvenience, the pink tax we have to pay for feminine products is outrageous.

2. The constant fear of being harassed

We can’t walk, enjoy a night in the city, or go anywhere for that matter without the fear of being harassed or cat called. We are always on alert and always have to be prepared to defend ourselves with pepper spray or a kitten key chain that is actually a knife. This is sad but unfortunately it’s a reality.

3. Bras

Nothing beats the feeling of taking your bra off after a long day. Bras come in many different shapes, sizes, style, and colors. How does one ever choose? If you're anything like me, there are certain tops/dresses you cant wear because you cant get away with not wearing a bra and the top/dress will show your straps if you wear it anyway. Also, back to the pink tax, have you seen the prices on a good bra?!

4. The maintenance

It takes a lot of maintenance to keep up with our feminine ways. Having to shave every few days only to hit cold air making our leg hairs basically grow back. Having to get our hair color touched up and split ends cut. Replacing makeup because we have either ran out or its old.

Now lets talk about the positives.

1. The sanctity of sisterhood

Once females put aside their petty differences and competitive ways, the bond and sisterhood we create can't be touched. They are a shoulder to cry on, a second opinion, and a constant cheerleader. Nothing compares to a love like the love you have for your girlfriends.

2. Getting away with things

Don't come for me feminists but by being a girl we can get men to take out our trash, carry our groceries, scrap our car of snow/ice or even pump our gas. I'm not saying we aren't capable of doing these things ourselves nor is it okay to manipulate men to do things for us but you can't deny that its nice to have someone take out our trash when its 90 or -10 degrees outside.

3. Unlimited options

This can be perceived as a both good and bad thing. As girls we have so many options when it comes to clothes, shoes, hair, and makeup. Sometimes our wide range of options can be overwhelming but so much fun. We can play with our look and easily express our personality or how we are feeling.

4. We are strong af

Have you seen the things women put up with? The pains of periods and childbirth, the nurturing we provide to our spouses and children, the constant scrutiny and ridicule we endure daily, the list is never ending. So basically we put up with a lot of sh*t. Women are superheros in human form and we rule the world.

In honor of Mother’s Day, I have been thinking of all the things my mom does for my family and me. Although I couldn’t write nearly all of them, here are a few things that moms do for us.

They find that shirt that’s right in front of you, but just you can’t seem to find.

10 Reasons To Thank Your Best Friend

Take the time to thank that one friend in your life you will never let go of.

Thank You on wooden blocks

1. Thank you for being the one I can always count on to be honest.

A true friend will tell you if the shirt is ugly, or at least ask to borrow it and "accidentally" burn it.

2. Thank you for accepting me for who I am.

A best friend will love you regardless of the stale french fries you left on the floor of your car, or when you had lice in 8th grade and no one wanted to talk to you.

Everybody gets sick once in a while, but getting sick while in college is the absolute worst. You're away from home and your mom who can take care of you and all you really want to do is just be in your own bed. You feel like you will have never-ending classwork to catch up on if you miss class, so you end up going sick and then it just takes longer to get better. Do as I say, not as I do.

Your eyes widen in horror as you stare at your phone. Beads of sweat begin to saturate your palm as your fingers tremble in fear. The illuminated screen reads, "Missed Call: Mom."

Growing up with strict parents, you learn that a few things go unsaid. Manners are everything. Never talk back. Do as you're told without question. Most importantly, you develop a system and catch on to these quirks that strict parents have so that you can play their game and do what you want.

"Friends" maybe didn’t have everything right or realistic all the time, but they did have enough episodes to create countless reaction GIFs and enough awesomeness to create, well, the legacy they did. Something else that is timeless, a little rough, but memorable? Living away from the comforts of home. Whether you have an apartment, a dorm, your first house, or some sort of residence that is not the house you grew up in, I’m sure you can relate to most of these!
