It's time for some me time

The Best Ways To Relax Over Winter Break

Finals are stressful, the end of the semester is stressful, even your family can be stressful. So when you finally get some time to yourself after the end of the semester at the beginning of Christmas break you need to relax. Here are my favorite ways to relax over winter break.

1. Set the Mood.

Light some candles and rearrange your room to get yourself in the relaxing mood. Maybe decorate your Christmas tree or put up some extra twinkly lights to really get yourself in not only the Christmas spirit but the relaxing spirit.

2. Read a good book.

I love to read a good book, but I rarely have time to read for pleasure when I'm at school. Reading a book is relaxing, it's time-consuming. Getting lost in a good book can mean sitting in bed all day, just simply reading. You feel like you get to know the characters and feel like you're experiencing their lives. It's the perfect escape over break.

3. Watch your favorite Christmas movie.

Get into the Christmas spirit by watching all of your favorite holiday-themed movies. There's the classics like White Christmas, Holiday Inn, and Life is Beautiful. There's the Hallmark movies that everyone's mother is obsessed with and the children's Christmas movies you secretly love to watch.

4. Finish binge-watching your new television series.

At school, it was so tempting to stop studying in order to continue binge-watching your favorite shows. Well, now you don't have to feel guilty for tuning out the whole world and watching two whole seasons of your favorite shows.

5. Eat some comfort food.

There's nothing like good home cooking or returning to your favorite local restaurants. Christmas is the perfect time to head back and eat your favorites. There's the seasonal food and then there's your old favorites. You can have both when you head home for winter break.

6. Take a long hot bath.

I don't know about you but for me, baths are a relaxing and a luxury. Very few college dorm rooms, apartments, and houses have bathtubs. So, when I head home I enjoy taking baths every chance I get.

7. Treat yourself.

Treat yourself in whatever way works for you. Whether it's cupcakes for breakfast, like me, or a good workout give yourself a little treat. Allow yourself a few little treats over break to hit the max amount of relaxation possible.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
