5 Best Ways to Distract Yourself When You Should be Studying for Finals

Everyone knows that finals week is a stressful time. When one is sitting in the library trying to study, most people tend to get distracted. Instead of trying so hard not to get distracted, we should just accept the fact that distractions are going to happen, and we need to welcome the needed brain break. Here is a list of the best distractions one can do instead of studying for finals.

1. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Repeat.

This is easily one of the most common ways to get distracted. By making sure you are up to date on what all of your friends are up to makes you feel much more in the loop. Once you check all three, you need to check all three again because you never know what new event just happened.

2. Pinterest.

This is one of the most amazing time wasters because the variety of things to look at is endless. So far I have designed my future wedding, what gifts to give my little, and decided where I want to travel when I get super rich. Pinterest is amazing because you could look on there for hours and NEVER EVER GET BORED.

3. Buzzfeed Quizzes.

This was my distraction of choice last night. I discovered my ideal date is funny, I am Aubrey from Pitch Perfect, I would be Chief of Staff on the show Scandal, I am a Phoenix from Harry Potter, and my classic Hollywood soulmate is James Dean. After taking these quizzes, I feel so much more aware of who I am as a person. Plus, they are fun.

4. Online Shopping.

The opportunities for future purchases are endless. With Christmas coming up, you need to be thinking about the perfect gift. If you are like me, your credit card information is saved to your computer so you do not even have to have it with you. It makes spending money so easy and fun.

5. Read and share posts on the Odyssey.

Obviously I recommend you read my lovely posts which you can find if you click on my name below, or read one of my fellow Ball State writers' posts. They are all enjoyable and discuss a variety of fun information.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.
