Attending college and working full time, you will find yourself stressed, almost 24/7. Life will simply revolve around school and work. I am guilty of this, becoming consumed with school and work life, that I forget to allow time to de-stress. So here, in this article, I am going to provide you some easy ways you can de-stress.
GARDEN:
Yes, gardening! Now I am not saying to build a whole greenhouse, but just start with 1-2 plants. Now the plant can be of your choice, succulents, herbs, flowers, whatever you choose. Studies have shown that 30 minutes of gardening leads to lower stress levels, as well as, an increase in positive mood. So, why not garden?!
READ A BOOK:
Grab your favorite book, and beverage, and sit on your most comfortable chair. When you read a book, your heart rate lowers, and your muscles relax. And studies have shown, that just 6 minutes of reading can lower stress. If you can try to read a physical book, or magazine, and try to stay away from technical devices.
TALK WITH A RELATIVE OR FRIEND:
Talk on the phone, or go grab some coffee or brunch with someone you have not talked to in awhile. When I have the chance, I like to call or visit with my grandmother. Talking with her, is so relaxing and my grandmother enjoys the conversation, as well. And no, texting does not count, have a physical conversation with someone. Conversations with family and friends, usually contains lots of laughs, and laughter is good for us. Laughter leads to improved mood, and lower stress levels. So, go ahead and laugh it up!
HUG YOUR PET:
Looking for a quick stress reliever, hug you pet! Studies show, that hugging your pet promotes stress reduction, contentment and lowers heart rate. So, go ahead, and hug your dog or cat!
TAKE A NAP:
Yes, a nap! A simply 30 minute nap can help improve mood, alertness and performance. A quick nap, can help rejuvenate your whole body and mind. And sometimes, we need that, a break from everything, and allowing our mind to rest.
These de-stressing activities always help me when life becomes stressful. Hope these help you, just as much as they help me.
