As 2016 ended, everywhere I looked people were shouting negativity. I agree, 2016 wasn't the best year in our history but there were so many things of which to be thankful.

Often, you see what you look for. My challenge for everyone in 2017 is to look for the good. In an effort to inspire that, I'm going to highlight the top things that happen each month in 2017 As we move forward. Here are the January highlights.

1. Leading ladies Michelle Obama and Melania Trump set an example of class and respect.
Regardless of political affiliations or difference of opinion, these ladies showed us how to meet in the middle and respect each other during the transfer of presidencies.

2. An Iowan principal asks student to shave his head.
A 6th-grade boy shaved his head to support his grandfather who is suffering from stage 4 lymphoma. When the boy came to school, students made fun of him. This middle school principal decided to teach the students a lesson.

3. A Tulsa police officer is creating a community policing effort to break cycles and keep kids out of trouble.
Popsey Floyd is on a mission to create a positive relationship with the police department and community. He is seeking to deter high-risk kids from troubled futures by rewarding them for positive behaviors. He's seeking out kids who are "off-track" and working to get them "on track." He is also creating a bond between troubled communities and the police department. Often, these communities have very negative views or relationships with police. He wants to show these kids, police officers care about them and want to encourage them.

4. Teen with terminal cancer is creating a random act of kindness chain reaction.
A teenage girl in New Brunswick is a terminal cancer patient inspiring hundreds around the world. Becca Schofield is showing others that joy comes from within. "I want them to take the focus away from all the bad things that happen in this world and I want them to realize that this life is a gift and you have to cherish every moment that you get," Schofield told CTV News. "Do something to make someone smile and then tweet what you did under the hashtag #BeccaToldMeTo."

5. Ohio police officer doesn't consider himself a hero after pulling a man from a car, moments before it explodes.

6. Atlanta women's marchers and police officers high five
These marchers showed the country how to have a respectful protest and these police officers showed their respect to the marchers. They're showing us all, despite your beliefs you can be respectful to one another.

7. 11-year-old obtains yoga certification and teaches yoga three days a week after mom's battle with cancer.

There's so much good in this world. Go out and find it. If you can't find it, create it.

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Syllabus Week As Told By Kourtney Kardashian

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Kourtney Kardashian

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.

panera bread

Whether you specialized in ringing people up or preparing the food, if you worked at Panera Bread it holds a special place in your heart. Here are some signs that you worked at Panera in high school.

1. You own so many pairs of khaki pants you don’t even know what to do with them

Definitely the worst part about working at Panera was the uniform and having someone cute come in. Please don’t look at me in my hat.

7 Ways to Make Your Language More Transgender and Nonbinary Inclusive

With more people becoming aware of transgender and non-binary people, there have been a lot of questions circulating online and elsewhere about how to be more inclusive. Language is very important in making a space safer for trans and non-binary individuals. With language, there is an established and built-in measure of whether a place could be safe or unsafe. If the wrong language is used, the place is unsafe and shows a lack of education on trans and non-binary issues. With the right language and education, there can be more safe spaces for trans and non-binary people to exist without feeling the need to hide their identities or feel threatened for merely existing.

Blair Waldorf
Stop Hollywood

For those of you who have watched "Gossip Girl" before (and maybe more than just once), you know how important of a character Blair Waldorf is. Without Blair, the show doesn’t have any substance, scheme, or drama. Although the beginning of the show started off with Blair’s best friend Serena returning from boarding school, there just simply is no plot without Blair. With that being said, Blair’s presence in the show in much more complex than that. Her independent and go-getter ways have set an example for "Gossip Girl" fans since the show started and has not ended even years after the show ended. Blair never needed another person to define who she was and she certainly didn’t need a man to do that for her. When she envisioned a goal, she sought after it, and took it. This is why Blair’s demeanor encompasses strong women like her.
