Since Tuesday's announcement that Donald Trump would become our next president, the world has seemed much darker. In the midst of our sadness, confusion, and our fight to always stand up for justice and equality, we need to remind ourselves that there is still hope in the world.

That being said, here is a list of little things in life that can bring us joy in even our darkest of times:

1. Looking outside and catching a glimpse of the sunset.

2. The excitement and overwhelming love your dog greets you with every time you come home, even if you were only gone for an hour.

3. Laughing until you cry.

4. Watching all the leaves change to bright reds, oranges, and yellows.

5. Hearing a song and immediately falling in love with it, replaying it all day, all week long.

6. That favorite book or movie you have that you always reread or rewatch when you need a pick-me-up.

7. Netflix.

8. Bubble baths, lavender soap.

9. Seeing shapes people, and objects in the clouds.

10. Love, whether that be romantic or platonic.

11. Discounted Halloween candy.

12. Scented candles.

13. The feeling you get when you finally finish writing your paper, lab report, or essay.

14. The atmosphere of coffee shops, especially on an Autumn afternoon.

15. Peaceful protests, the unity and respect people have for each other as they fight for each other's rights.

16. Museums, aquariums, amusement parks, arcades.

17. Your local beach during off-season, it's empty and chilly but the ocean is just as beautiful as it was during the cramped chaos of summer.

18. Climbing into bed with freshly made sheets.

19. Girls complimenting each other in public restrooms.

20. Watching blooper reels on Youtube.

21. Parks, forests, lakes.

22. Oversized sweaters, warm cups of cocoa, the heat of the fireplace.

23. Holiday movies.

24. The night sky.

25. The overwhelming smell of old and new books and coffee when you walk into a bookstore.

26. Driving down the highway at night, open windows, blasting your favorite song.

27. Cuddling.

28. The first snowfall of the season.

29. Childhood nostalgia, trick-or-treating, fairytales, making up the rules to games we just invented in the backyard.

30. Beyoncé.

31. Picnics.

32. Going to the store and spending too much time smelling all the candles, lemon, cinnamon, fresh laundry, roses, vanilla cupcake.

33. Freshly painted nails.

34. Your favorite memories with your best friends.

35. Hobbies, painting, photography, writing, running, yoga, knitting.

36. The first swim of the season, how good the water finally feels.

37. Holding hands.

38. Seeing your favorite band or artist in concert.

39. Baby animals.

40. Remembering the good in the world.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
